Celebrity Deaths 2024 (90 or younger)

Maggie Smith - actress
Clive Everton - commentator

Clive Everton, the Everton I wanted to avoid the drop this year, or any year.

I am very sad to read this. A voice of my youth.

RIP

I tremendously admired Clive Everton’s steadfast journalistic refusal to refer to players by their first name only.

There was no “Ronnie”, or “Jimmy” or “Ken” with him.

It was “O’Sullivan”, “White”, “Doherty”.

It’s Mark Williams’s title but Ken Doherty’s championship - that’s what he said in 2003.

I was obsessed with snooker back then.

And how right he was.

Lowe, Everton, Edmonds, Karnehm, McAnally, christ we were spoiled with legendary voices in the commentary box.

The voices of our sport, the greatest sport, snooker.

I recall Ray Edmonds referring to Michaela Tabb and how ‘she really is a very attractive lady’ and commended players for not getting distracted when she was in their eye line on shots.

I don’t think he was heard of much again after that.

RIP whistler

RIP. Always seemed a righteous dude.

Think he played with Johnny Cash at the University concert hall in Limerick in 90s.

Not sure if rest of Highwaymen were there.
