Celtic Non-Matchday Discussion

I wouldn’t dream of telling Ange what to do but i personally wouldn’t include anyone he intends to start against Rangers for Wednesday. Id go with something along the lines of

Siegrist

Ralston
Starfelt/Jenz
Welsh (fitness depending)
Bernabei

Mooy
McCarthy
Turnbull

Haksabanovic
Giakoumakis
Forrest

That team would take care of Malky’s staggies. I’m sure of it.

Nick Walsh confirmed for Saturday, the deputy head of the school the huns send their academy boys

If the board don’t fuck this up (cc @Rocko bring back Fulvio), Ange could be around for years and actually progress and do well in Europe.

He probably trumps o neil as my favourite Celtic manager since ive been following them*

That goes back to Hay

Burns
Ange
O’Neill

He’s a very good ref in my opinion. Definitely one of the better ones in Scotland.

its since you have been following them mate

I liked O’Neill but he was the first Manager to be given any sort of budget. He couldn’t buy a win in europe and left an aging team on big contracts ala Bobo. I also think his lust over the ingland job and going for the interview raises questions about the man.

I think Wim Jansen stopping the 10 would put him in my Top 3 along with Tommy Burns.

Not sure we’ll see Halsabanovic yet but agree with that sort of lineup. We potentially have Mikey Johnston to play either (though he could well be leaving on loan tomorrow possibly).

Shved signs for Shaktar I see, another old bhoy out for revenge

‘An unbelievable time to be alive’: Jota loving life at Celtic after Rangers rout

Jota can’t wait to face Real Madrid after Celtic thumped Rangers on Saturday.

JOTA says it is an ‘unbelievable time to be alive’ as he revelled in Celtic’s demolition of Rangers ahead of welcoming Real Madrid to Glasgow on Tuesday night.

The Portuguese winger produced an outstanding chipped finish to score Celtic’s second goal as they demolished Rangers in the derby, with the four goals on the day taking their league tally to 25 already after only six matches.

Jota says it is a joy to play within such an attacking set-up under Ange Postecoglou, and he now can’t wait for his team to test themselves in the Champions League.

“I’m so grateful to be in the team that plays this kind of football,” Jota said. “I’ve played like this all my youth and this is just the way I want to play football with these principles.

“Attacking football, high tempo, high pressing, one v ones, crossings, assists, goals. That’s what we aim for.

“It’s just an unbelievable time to be alive right now.

“For some people the dream is to win even if you play bad. If you can play good and win games that is what we want.

“I think we are in a good moment right now, there are plenty of difficult matches to come so we just need to remain humble and work hard every day.

“That’s what we have been doing since last season and we want to keep improving.”

Rather than a prospect to be feared, Jota says that the occasion against the European champions on Tuesday will be something to savour.

“Once you start to play football these are the moments you want,” he said.

“The moments you will record one day, maybe in 15 years you can tell your children that you enjoyed these moments. This is all about enjoying it.

“People say ‘you have to be ready for this!’ They are so into the moment that they cannot enjoy. I think we will enjoy it.

“We will stay responsible, know what we have to do, but at the same time enjoy it. Because it’s very good to play these games.”

That is harsh. O’Neill delivered sustained domestic success and his record in Europe was excellent compared to predecessors. No doubt he was a bit quirky and maybe thin skinned but his positive attributes (highly intelligent, motivator, good communication skills, chip on shoulder, people management) made him effective and for me most likeable. Managing Celtic and indeed Ireland was special for O’Neill and I like the way he let his heart rule on occasion.

I don’t know if he’s been approached yet. I could only imagine he’d go for the climate, unless they come in with three million a year, which they might.
Soccer wise it wouldn’t be a great move, but you’re only ever six games from the sack as a football manager, as one very successful one said recently.

He’s not on their shortlist after they found out he wasn’t open to the offer.

In fairness, your expertise on Celtic managers is suspect cc @fulvio
