Celtic Non-Matchday Discussion

It’d be another kick in the stones after last summer - when you need to strengthen the first team & end up selling a key player or more. Like we know these potentially top, top class lads won’t stay in the SPL forever, the whole point is to keep the conveyor belt of incomings going too.

Its simply not an option to sell MO’R this window, league is on the line. If Athletico or anyone else want him they can bid against one another in the Summer.
The “squad” is weak enough as it is, recruitment has fallen off the edge of a cliff

Celtic are making some fcuk up of this just as the huns are gaining momentum :see_no_evil: two old firm wins and still only going to be 2 points ahead

Rogers blaming the (home) pitch for the dross being played. He seems to be phoning it in this season.

The pitch is shocking to be fair. Not responsible for the performance yesterday but it certainly didn’t help.

It’s hard to understand why. Do the ladies play on it as well?

Nope. Very very rarely.

It’s hard to know why. It was supposed to be the best in the business. The likes of Motherwell have a smashing pitch now after struggling for years and must be doing it on a fraction of the budget.

If we win the league this year (and that’s very doubtful based on yesterday’s performance and the general staleness in the squad) we will have our longest gap between seasons in at least a decade which should give the opportunity to fix it.

If fixing the pitch is anything like fixing the squad, they’ll get a few lads in with a wheelbarrow to fill the potholes and save a few quid.

Rodgers spoke post-match on Saturday about being hopeful of making ONE (1) difference maker type signing before the deadline. But there wasn’t any sense it was definite or imminent. Taylor is meant to be out for a month & Bernabei was stone useless in the part I saw on Saturday. However, most reports are talking about striker back up as the potential incoming with SVH’s name getting mentioned.

before @thedancingbaby time but id consider the signing of big Pierre as the transformational signing which took Celtic out of the doldrums

Having attended my first game in a number of years, I witnessed a very uninspiring performance, similar to much of the season so far. However the chips at half time were lovely.

that pub with the Republican Band still going?

That old warehouse was gone. So didn’t see Andy Craig or the Republican flute band. Sad times.

It makes no sense at all not to strengthen. Everyone knows it. It’s baffling.

The inertia is baffling. The only time there’s been real purpose with regards to strengthening the squad in the last clutch of years was Postecoglou’s first season. That was when we simply had to rebuild, the Dom McKay chap was briefly CEO for the summer & Ange’s force of personality probably pushed him & later Michael Nicholson to complete a lot of signings that turned out to be successful - CCV, Kyogo, Starfelt, Juranovic, Jota, Abada in the summer followed by O’Riley, Maeda, Hatate etc in January. There was a tail off in terms of quality of signings in Ange’s second season & I wonder if he knew he was going to be away this time last year when they were signing Kobayashi, Oh & whoever.

The squad building just seems completely off. Hard to decipher what the strategy is & who’s driving it or, should I say, stifling it. Is it the LawwelIs being stingy? Is the Lawwell Jr led recruitment team not fit for purpose? Are they recommending cheap dross? Is Rodgers focusing on unrealistic targets & wasting time? Is there a proper working relationship between Rodgers & the recruitment side? How can they look at the likes of Bernabei & think it’s okay to have him around the first team?
