We certainly missed Petrov at the weekend. There was no leadership from midfield (which reflects very badly on Lennon). If Petrov does leave then a signing of the stature of Gravesen is needed to shore up that gap. I see your man Coppola from Messina was linked with us again. He’s supposed to be quality but I don’t know how much truth is in those rumours.
Taken from the HB - interesting to see the wages of Board Members. Check out what McLeod (Lawwell’s predecessor) was on!
What was the story with McLeod again? Was he the BA guy? Was he such as big supporter that he felt he should do the role for free?!
More positive whispers of Vinegar of Hesselink tonight. Also rumours that Naylor is just a backup for Boka the Ivory Coast winger. And the agent Willie McKay who pretty much owns all the French players and really pissed off Manchester City by convincing Joey Barton to put in that transfer request in January announced tonight that Celtic would make another signing before the end of the week that would be front and back page news.
Will believe it all when I see it.
Scroll over to the right on the image to see his actual package. He was a prick by all accounts.
I saw those signings rumoured. I’d be delighted with VoH and a left back other than Naylor plus keep Stan or replace him with Tommy Gravesen or Carmine Coppola. Don’t think Stan will be going anywhere at this stage.
Don’t know if this question was asked before but is this guy Naylor any good? Also says on the bbc site that Portsmouth have given up in their bid for Petrov. Can’t see him going anywhere at this late stage unless Munich give in to selling Hargreaves and they put a late bid in for him.
Celtic have agreed a ?600,000 deal with Wolves for defender Lee Naylor, with fellow left-back Charlie Mulgrew leaving Glasgow in exchange.
Both players are now travelling in the opposite direction to discuss personal terms and undergo medicals.
Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey told the club website: "Lee made it plainly clear he wouldn’t sign a new contract.
“Faced with that situation the club reluctantly decided to agree to his request (to join Celtic).”
Naylor, 26, came through the ranks at Wolves and has made 334 appearances for the English Championship club.
Wolves had offered him a new four-year contract, but manager Mick McCarthy admitted that the lure of Champions League football was pivotal in prising the defender away.
“He’s had a good innings here and done well for the club so I’ve no problem,” he told Wolves’ website.
"When you’ve got a player who has done great for the club, if someone comes in for him and he gets the opportunity, I fully understand his desire to move on to fresh pastures.
Mulgrew spent time with Dundee United last season
“But, as we proved last Saturday, if somebody leaves then someone else comes in and plays.”
Mulgrew, 20, was on loan to Dundee United last season and has not featured for Celtic this season.
The Tannadice club had hoped to sign Mulgrew permanently and St Mirren were also keen on taking the Scotland under-21 international.
It doesn’t seem to be a great deal from Celtic’s point of view. Mulgrew, a promising young player, being swapped for Naylor, a championship journeyman, plus having to pay ?600k also. I probably have seen Naylor a bit but I can’t recall if he was any good or not. But if he is you’d have to question why the fook has he been at Wolves all his career? Celtic should not be signing players from this level unless they are young promising players, instead we saw them signing Mo Camara from Burnley last year at the age of 30 and he was pish. Paul Telfer was signed from Southampton at the age of 34 and he was pish too. Naylor is 26/27 and I fear he will be the same. The only positive is that it will allow Mark Wilson to flourish on his natural side and it might signal the end of Telfer’s days.
I still cling to the hope that Naylor is a backup and the real left back will arrive before the deadline. Though I think he might be the stop gap for this season with the young Czech guy, Kadlec, that they’ve been tracking maybe coming on a Bosman next summer.
