Forster was at Celtic facility today having his Covid 19 tests ahead of training tomorrow. Interesting that he’s still with the squad.
Is Mo gone?
I assume so.
I’m not overly concerned about that, I think Johnson has more potential than him - he just needs to stay fit and I don’t think he’s worth what Southampton will probably look for him.
There was a bizarre link with us sending Shved back to his old club on loan which would make no sense. Surely if we loan him it would be to a Championship or SPL club.
I presume Celtic would still like to keep him?
Yes. He was excellent last season. I’d say they’ll try and get another loan - pick up his wages and not have to worry about a transfer fee. But I’m sure there will be a fee with the loan too, just not as big a commitment.
I think we are interested in him too, Lennon said so I think, but I think the Forster move is the bigger priority. He was excellent for a spell last year but never got going again after his injury really. He’d be too big a risk for a big fee I think given how little football he has played in a few years.
Gordon is weighing up his options. I doubt St Mirren’s offer is better than Celtic’s vastly reduced offer but I suspect much of this is around playing time as much as anything. And Celtic want him to be 2nd/3rd choice I guess.
CRAIG GORDON has told Celtic they must up the ante if they want him to sign a new deal.
Goalkeeper Gordon, 37, is out of contract after six years at Parkhead.
He has rejected a vastly-reduced contract to stay with Neil Lennon’s nine-in-a-row Premiership champions and talks are now on hold.
We exclusively revealed last week that St Mirren tabled an offer for Gordon.
He told SunSport: “With Celtic, the ball is in their court. They’ve made an offer but they know they’ll need to come back with something better.
“My contract has lapsed and I’m free to talk to anybody. That’s what I intend to do over the next few weeks.
“St Mirren have made me a good offer and other clubs have also been in touch.
“As things stand I haven’t closed the door on anybody.”
Hearts are also keen to snap up the 54-times capped Scotland star — but their hopes could depend on whether they avoid relegation to the Championship.
Keeper Gordon has confirmed St Mirren’s offer is one he’s giving consideration to though following talks with Buddies boss Jim Goodwin.
He added: “Jim has been absolutely fantastic with me.
“We’ve had a number of conversations and I can’t speak highly enough of him or St Mirren.
“I’ve been seriously impressed.
“I didn’t know Jim at all before he got in touch with me but he’s a great guy, a proper professional, who has made a very good offer.
“He understands I want to take my time before deciding what’s next for me. Other clubs have been in touch too and I’m expecting to have some more talks with Celtic.
“But I’ll take my time to consider what to do.
“I’m just going to wait and see what my options are.
“There is no real rush for me as we don’t have a specific start date yet when the new season is to kick off.
“As things stand it’s really difficult for clubs to set a firm budget when they don’t know when supporters are going to be allowed back into matches.
“So I’m playing a bit of a waiting game.
“It’s not a great time for anybody to be out of contract, no matter what level.
“When you look across Scottish football there’s some lower league clubs that have hardly any players signed at the moment.
“So the country is full of guys, like me, who don’t yet know what the future holds.
“There are the other factors that I need to consider as well, both financially and what’s right for my family.
“I have to be thankful for the career I have had since I started out which puts me in a position where I can be a little bit more patient, to bide my time and see what comes up.”
Jeff Hendrik being linked in a free transfer. He seems like the type of player Lennon would like and appreciate. I’d say there could be a fair bit of substance here.
Ryan Fraser also linked on another free transfer. I think he’s very overrated.
Celtic would hardly have the money to pay two lads who turned down new contracts from their clubs in the EPL?
Why wouldn’t they?
Free transfers.
They’d be expecting a wage at the end of the week too though. A handsome one at that
They don’t play for free mate and they both turned down Premier League contracts. Wages are generally higher in free transfers as well
I thought Jeff was going to AC Milan
If there’s no outlay on a transfer fee then it makes that amenable.
They turned down contracts from tinpot clubs.
Clubs with far more money than Celtic
It’s Robbie Brady ye should be after. Save him Dyche
Tinpot clubs.
Yes. With far more money than Celtic. I strongly doubt either player would want to go to the Scottish league in their prime even away from the money element
