I’d give the transfer window a 4/10.
We’ve added good players in Duran, Baur, Hogh and Hassan and I don’t think we overpaid on them. We moved on a lot of deadwood and recouped good money on players that left.
We’ve added a lot mediocre players. Squad looking bloated again with cheap, short term fixes that add nothing to the squad. For me - Johnstone, Lotomba, the two lads from Chelsea are a waste of time. Mhueka will probably be our 4th choice striker and when Hogh and Osmand are back fit we will probably not see much game time. Why not just trust young Clearie to play the handful of minutes a 4th choice striker might actually do for us? We should have signed a permanent choice at LB, it’s an important position and we have an unproven kid in there and it just kicks the can down the road. Johnstone is a backup keeper when we needed a 1st choice keeper to upgrade on Sinisalo. Lotomba is probably 3rd choice RB and 4th choice LB and will hardly play.
Midfield left woefully short. I’m very on the fence about Sorensen - he looked really limited on the ball the other night but looks like has a bit of legs and gets into goalscoring positions. Will see how he goes. Van Den Berg looks to have potential and the fee was reasonable but we needed other bodies in ahead of him.
A £15m profit that leaves us with a bloated squad and short of quality in many areas is the end result. It shows that nothing has changed and the current custodians refuse to learn any lessons and are not willing to listen to criticism. It also further proves the point, money will not be invested in the team despite repeated pleas from managers and fans and the board are utterly clueless on how to utilise their cash reserves.
