Sure we’re open at the back and there will be days it goes wrong but we have a new keeper on a free, a guy at right back nobody thought was good enough, same at left back. A new centre back and our emergency cover centre back from last year who looks regenerated.
A rejuvenated midfield trio and so much pace and energy up front. He’s had to build a team basically around McGregor, Turnbull, Forrest and subs and we look so good.
Celtic had a bit of luck on their side tonight but it was a good performance. Solid enough at the back with Ralston outstanding, Rogic excellent and Kyogo impressive. What a change from last season.
He’s only come off the bench these past two games. Hasn’t looked sharp but we’ve had two goal leads in each game and weren’t trying to do anything too expansive.
He looks fairly rash in his decision making and prone to concentration lapses. Doesn’t seem too comfortable with the ball at his feet either. He needs to improve hugely.
As well as Rogic played tonight, and some of his touches were brilliant, I think his shooting will still improve. He’s had a few good positions at the edge of the box this season and hasn’t burst the net yet. You feel that’s coming with him as he continues his resurgence.
All that space we open up with our pace should work wonders for Edouard, Turnbull, and Rogic to find more room around the box. They were all crowded out last year because we were so predictable but there’ll be much more room for them this season hopefully.
I always thought Ralston got a lot of undeserved flak.
He’s only 22, did well when he got a breakthrough under Rodgers initially before injuries sidelined him.
This is the first time he’s had an extended run in the team at Celtic so it was very premature to judge him.
Ralston is an example of what can happen when a manager works with a player and develops them. Lennon did not develop one single player in the Celtic squad in his time here.
I’d say the same for other guys down the years. The likes of Bayo and Shved completely wrote off without the manager ever putting any faith or trust in them while we had woefully out of form players being picked every week and other players being flogged playing 60 games a season.
Ange has been saying that he needs players to complement what he has rather than replace them, and that some of them are running on empty with the busy programme.
He seems to value embedding the style and working on combinations throughout the team but I’d say he’ll rotate a bit at the weekend. No offence to The Buddies, but with AZ and the huns away after that it seems like an opportune time to give chances to a few others.
