Loads of Sevco supporters on Twitter mistook this Achill Island CSC banner as “Islam CSC”.
That was a relatively comfortable victory for Celtic yesterday in the end. I didn’t think we were convincing but, aside from their early headed chance, we were in control from the first goal onwards. We had a spell at 2-0 in the second half where we didn’t retain possession very well but they didn’t create an opportunity of note in the second period. We scored some good goals and it was a very satisfying way to end the season.
Forster – Important save from Doyle’s header at 0-0 but one I expected him to make – nice height for a keeper and other clichés like that. Still has a tendency to stay on his line when he should be out earlier, most notably for the chance at 2-0 when Griffiths rounded him but was unable to finish from a narrow angle on his weaker side.
Lustig – Involved in the first and third goals and had the run of the right flank in the first half with Forrest playing narrow and Thomson doing likewise for Hibs on their left. He was a little uncertain defensively at times but a very good season overall though, especially in the big games.
Wilson – Solid, no-nonsense display. One of Celtic’s best players this season and a great improvement from his debut campaign.
Mulgrew – Relatively good apart from getting caught out with the long ball for that above mentioned Griffiths’ chance. Composed with the ball at his feet and a better option than Ambrose at the back these days.
Izaguirre – Good game from Izzy. Defended well and got forward to decent effect too without directly creating a goal. Showing signs of getting back to his best.
Forrest – Below par. Don’t think he’s played that narrow right sided role in a 4-3-1-2 many times before and wasn’t very prominent. Also shat out of a few challenges and wasn’t perhaps at full fitness. Sometimes he looks like he has a brilliant future ahead of him but he looks distinctly average on other occasions. Needs to put these hamstring injuries behind him and kick on next season. Could be our James Milner, and I can give him no greater target to aim for.
Brown – Magnificent and utterly dominant display. Strong, forceful, skilful, even creative these days too. There’s no finer midfielder playing in a European island nation than Scott Brown. Very impressive indeed, and with Forrest giving hardly any help to Brown and Ledley too.
Ledley – Typical Ledley performance with lots of ground covered, interceptions made and tackles won. Short, crisp passing and an excellent finish for the goal. Just a very solid footballer who does nearly everything well.
Commons – Not as good as he’s been in the last few months. Still put Ledley in for a great chance at 1-0 and was involved in some good first half moves but not one of our best players yesterday.
Stokes – MoTM. A fantastic performance and it must have been his best display for Celtic. Two superb assists for Hooper – one with his right and the second with his left. Superb workrate throughout and worked across to the left to prevent their right back from getting forward with Ledley playing a narrow role in midfield. Held the ball up well, linked the play and just did everything brilliantly. Also showed exceptional skill to start the move for the last goal. Should be Ireland’s main striker.
Hooper – Took both goals superbly. A neat finish for the first and a rare header for the second. Showed good variety to his game in dropping short to get involved in some good passing play as well as getting into scoring positions in the box. Could, maybe should, have had a hat-trick in the move where Ledley ultimately scored. 31 goals is a fine return for the season.
Subs:
Samaras – looked lovely.
Ambrose – a bit wayward.
McCourt – don’t sell him. He was given the armband when he came on, which suggests it was a gesture to see him on his way.
I’d recommend searching “IslamCSC” on Twitter. Very, very funny stuff.

What u make of Hampden as a ground to attend? Hibs fans a decent bunch?
Not as bad a stadium as it seemed but er were on the sideline and not behind the goals. Certainly fine viewing angles from our seats and not too far from the pitch. Decent enough for generating an atmosphere too, I’d say 5% of the stadium were sitting down. Everyone else stood for the entirety. Bizarrely some lad arrived in after 25 minutes and sat behind us and shouted for about 25 minutes from half time on about how be paid for a seat and everyone should sit down.
Hibs fans made a bit of noise in fairness to them. Good rendition of Sunshine on Leith pre kick off and they kept up the singing for most of the match. They were easily aggrieved at decisions that were clear cut and a bit intolerant of Celtic singing or Scott Brown giving a masterclass but they’re entitled to be partisan.
Behind the scenes footage of the Celtic team bus returning to Celtic Park yesterday. You can see the little cliques and what not. Forster getting a jersey signed by his team-mates…hmmm. Izzy dancing. Commons eating a burger and drinking a bottle of lager.
