Celtic v Huns ☘

Can’t believe Lennon waited until the 85th minute to change the formation. The back three rolling it back and across for most of the game. No offence to young Welsh but he should have been replaced at half time.

Jesus that was very poor. @Bandage thought the first half was abysmal. I thought it was poor but not irrecoverable. The second half was as bad a 45 minutes as I’ve seen. Insipid and clueless.

Left the formation for far too long. I get we don’t have wide players but they just let us try and work triangles among our centre backs and made sure it went to Welsh as often as possible. Welsh is miles off the standard required of a modern centre back on the ball. Duffy’s passing was very poor too but Welsh was slow and predictable and errant in his passing.

Thought Elyounoussi should have been left on because he was moving a bit. Klimala doesn’t look good enough still.

No urgency from anyone other than McGregor. Griffiths looked a tiny bit lively when he came on and Ajer was mixed. Otherwise it was so pedestrian. Rogic didn’t break into a sweat I don’t think. Ajeti barely got a kick but got no service obviously. Frimpong was shite. Klimala was crap. Ntcham was Ntcham.

I think nearly every opponent has long since figured our three at the back. We don’t have the players capable of stepping forward with the ball and our midfield aren’t dynamic enough as a trio to cause problems. The first one is easier solved with a reversion to a back 4 but that midfield problem isn’t going to go away soon. Brown wasn’t the worst player today but he didn’t offer anything on the ball. Ntcham was far too quiet. Rogic is a long time without contributing and Turnbull is unproven. Hoping we can do some sort of 6-8-8 with McGregor-Christie-Turnbull or something but we badly need more players capable of playing the ball quickly and at the moment only McGregor fits into that category.

Think that was a very poor day on the line for Lennon too. An appalling injury/illness situation going into the game but we put out a formation and system that was beaten and we didn’t seem able to react to it at all. 70 minutes gone, 2 down and we keep working the ball to Welsh at right back who doesn’t have anywhere to pass it and is too afraid to play a pass anyway.

I’m giving Lennon the Milan and Aberdeen games to sort this.

That was a shameful performance and the buck stops with him

I think their defence is our saving grace. Goldson made a few errors today that will be covered up by his goals and by his late header. He was caught out twice by nothing balls. Tavernier is a crap defender too. I don’t actually think they played that well today. They were better last Christmas. Kamara did well for them and Arfield but Davis was shit, their front 3 were poor (Kent was ok but poor based on current form) and that defence is liable to concede. We were so passive it barely mattered though.

And there we have it. Celtics saving grace under Neil Lennon is that rangers have a poor defence.

You can lose them games but you can’t play that badly and stick with the same shite that isn’t working all game and be embarrassed like that. A lot of spineless performances there but Lennon didn’t change anything until it was all but over. No shots on target, arguably a sackable performance it was that bad

fair enough but when is last time celtic as a team played well against Rangers? thye seem to be passive in last 3 or 4 matches… especially in the midldle.

This time last year when we beat them at Ibrox. I’m not saying it’s not concerning. Just thinking the huns might get complacent. I think they’re still fairly average. But that doesn’t make it any better that they outplayed us so easily. Again.

@Locke , along with an unerring eye for centurions on the cusp of dying, has unveiled himself as somewhat of a football mystic. The 0-2 call early doors was outstanding.

Amazing you’re jumping on a guy who got 25 minutes at on the pitch 0-2 down and has been ignored for the past 18 months by the manager when the same culprits have been coining it for that time.

I criticised Lennon, Frimpong, Welsh, Ntcham, Klimala, Duffy, Brown and Rogic.

You’re kidding yourself if you think Rogic should be exempt from criticism. He’s experienced and one of our highest paid players. He was brutal.

I think it’s odd to single a player who has been ignored for 18 months by the manager in favour of underperforming players, some of them who look clearly jaded or out of form for a significant period of time when he comes into a game where are 0-2 down after 65 minutes.

Even weirder when you staunchly defend Lennon.

V good , just read it👍

He’s been injured most of the time he was ignored. When he’s been fit he has played poorly. I didn’t single him out. He is one of many that were very poor today. It’s a bizarre and childish stance to defend your favourite player when he plays like that.

As I said earlier I thought he should have been brought on earlier for Welsh. And I think Lennon got it badly wrong today and I haven’t defended him on that at all. But if you want to pretend Rogic should be exempt from criticism then that’s just deluding yourself.

I think Laxalt gets a pass from me because of his debut. McGregor because he played well. I thought Ajer tried but was limited. Turnbull and Taylor didn’t get long enough to warrant praise or criticism. And I’d be close to excusing Frimpong because he got crap passes and is young and has played well this season. Everyone else was poor or worse. If you think that’s singling someone out then you have a chip on your shoulder.

Rogic was on the bench for about 20-25 games last season.

2021 has been shit.
