Offside. Still 2-1
That’s a nonsense
What an absolute joke shop.
Why ? He was offside
The defender headed it to him.
I’d like to hear Peter Walton’s take on it.
Full time
Very comfortable in the end. They didn’t even get into our half at all really in the last 20 minutes
I turned over. It was a dreadful game.
Celtic don’t seem to be getting much luck from var.
The “We know Jason Holt is a chea…diver from his time at Hearts”
I generally find Cuddihy and Boyd insufferable but thought that was funny in fairness
Celtic need to be calling out these crooks before it costs us big time
He is onside and the goal should have stood, going by law 11

Another handball that would have 100% been given at the other end, again
Call these pricks out
@Rocko, as an ardent disciple of the laws of the game, please expand on the Abada offside goal as per the clip posted above. Is it simply a case that, even though he would have been offside from the initial prod forward by Turnbull, once the defender makes a play at the ball then it becomes a new phase and so he was onside according to the laws of the game? The 4-5 minute long VAR check, which even saw the referee go to the monitor, ended up with them getting it wrong after taking an age? Or were they actually right after going around the houses?
kyogo seems to be in the firing line these days
GG being petulant
So there are a few things here.
- Mbappe scored a goal in the Nations League final which exploited this rule.
You’ll see here that Garcia plays the ball and this plays Mbappé onside.
- The rules were subequently clarified by IFAB to provide more clarity on this type of situation.
https://www.theifab.com/news/law-11-offside-deliberate-play-guidelines-clarified/
They made a distinction between “deliberate play” and a “deflection” which does not play someone onside. Deliberate play is:
when a player has control of the ball with the possibility of:
- passing the ball to a team-mate; or
- gaining possession of the ball; or
- clearing the ball (e.g. by kicking or heading it).
If the pass, attempt to gain possession or clearance by the player in control of the ball is inaccurate or unsuccessful, this does not negate the fact that the player ‘deliberately played’ the ball.
So the defender making a hames of his header doesn’t change whether he had the possibility of clearing the ball.
Ìn determining whether the play was deliberate the officials should consider:
The following criteria should be used, as appropriate, as indicators that a player was in control of the ball and, as a result, ‘deliberately played’ the ball:
- The ball travelled from distance and the player had a clear view of it
- The ball was not moving quickly
- The direction of the ball was not unexpected
- The player had time to coordinate their body movement, i.e. it was not a case of instinctive stretching or jumping, or a movement that achieved limited contact/control
- A ball moving on the ground is easier to play than a ball in the air
This wasn’t a ball fired at his head from short range. The ball traveled a distance and it didn’t do anything unexpected.
Note, there is nothing in the rules or the guindance to say that Abada’s movement is relevant to this.
- The whole decision was a farce. They seemed to ask the referee to go to the monitor to review whether Turnbull touched the ball or not. This was after the referee listening to the Livingston player talking to him repeatedly and telling him he didn’t mean to head it. Basically the “review” was a cop out.
Conclusion: Ball deliberately played by the defender. Unsuccessful attempt at a clearance. Ergo play on and goal should have stood.
Celtic have been calling them out for years. There’s no point
You left out the final criteria
A Whether it’s in favour of sevco
B Whether it’s not in favour of Celtic.
What do lads expect. It’s just a second chance for some bowler hatted purple faced cunt to shaft anyone seen as anti-union.
The time to call them out is when you’ve won. Id be ramming it down their throats now before the 2nd as a little reminder. They are going to screw us over in some way that day, nothing surer
Rumor is gollum is on VAR.
Not a rumour. Announced yesterday as posted on the scotch footy thread
Well there you go
