Dinamo Zagreb didn’t fare much better today. 1-1 at home to Fola Esch from Luxembourg and the Luxembourger lads were down to ten men for half an hour. Another team with a very very good youth system but that’s a very poor effort.

yep… its sad in a way @Rocko, UCD put out a Luxemburger side to put it in perspective
i think Aberdeen are a great bet at 13/2 in Rijeka tomooro nite…given the state of Balkan club football

were Starnjan as we expected @Rocko?
did they have anything?

Nope. They were fairly shite. They just tried to park the bus and weren’t particularly good at that. Couple of half chances on the break but nothing. Some 35 year old veteran of the Norwegian top flight came off the bench late and he’s their star talent seemingly.

Their keeper was the Faroes’ Gunnar Nielsen (ex Manchester City) who played very well.

Any relation to rising UFC wrestling star, Gunnar Nelson?

Yes, her aunt.

Draw for the next pre-qualifying round coming up shortly. Celtic or Stjarnan can get:

be looking looking to avoid Skenderbeu or Lech Poznan
they rest are all beatable

A potential trip to Azerbaijan or Montenegro for Celtic. Those teams drew 0-0 in the first leg.

Dundalk or BATE got TNS (Wales) or Videoton (Hungary).

Handy enough draw.

Avoided the likes of Partizan and Poznan so happy enough with it.

Starjnan: You know they’d love to beat us but they think it’d blow our minds.

Janko is playing with the Development Squad in a friendly against Raith tonight so presumably won’t be involved in Iceland tomorrow night.

Lech are a good footballing side.

Maccabi Tel Aviv coasted through with a 5-1 win.

Ludogrets Razgrad lost 2-1 and are surprisingly out.

Linconln Red Imps are 1 down at home and won’t be going through.

Partizan won 0-2 away to get through 3-0 on aggregate.

These lads are 1 down away to Crusaders tonight. They’ll get through alright but that’s a bit of a hiccup.

yeah, i think they went down to 10 after 15 mins but have come back to take it
2-1 (6-2)
Maccabi were awful, they went 1 up thanks to an OG b4 HT but then the Maltese lads came out and equalised deservedly, Eran Zahavi put them 2-1 up and then really id say just class came in as Maccabi knocked in another 3 but against really poor opposition it was most unconvicing

Not sure if anyone was watching Soccer Republic last night, this is an excellent show that covered all the goals and analysis from last weeks 4 LOI teams in European action as well as weekly roundup of domestic
Great discussion last night with Damien Richardson and Alan Cawley on Dundalk against BATE, the highlights from last week were very selective from RTE, they showed Dave Macmillian’s goal , another Dundalk chance and then BATE’s strikes, the whole game however told a different story, BATE really have so much more than them and in the second half owned the game, they are technically streets ahead of Dundalk and i think are a very solid 13/10 tomoro night, Ive done BATE-2 also, an early goal and its curatins.
I really hope im wrong, Dundalk are a very good side in LOI terms, maybe as good as Cork or Shels in 2003-2005, i like the fact that BATE couldnt push them off the ball, watch UCD and Slovan Bratislava, there were times when UCD lads were shoved out of the way the Norwegians pissed all over Rovers also, that’s a different story tho, UCD went to Slovakia not giving a fuck and went out to win the game, they almost did and thats great to see.

Dundalk need to score tomorro nite, the plastic pitch, ok maybe its an advantage but there are are 2 in the Belarussian PL. not a factor, BATE play at a different pace, are a strong side and will win.
Peter Collins asked Rico can Dundalk win, Rico took a long pause and then stated that in order to do so they need every possible factor including luck, the crowd, and the opposition having a mare to go thru as well as playing their A game… i think they’ll bring their A game, that and luck wont be enough tho

What odds is the -2? BATE didn’t set the world alight in qualifying for the CL last season. They beat Slovan Bratislava 3-0 but other than that they were unconvincing. @croppy backed them at close to evens for the first leg which seemed a very generous price because they have a far superior pedigree but don’t seem to be getting brilliant results in Europe.
