Champions League 2022/23 Matchday 3

That was a brilliant goal, if it’s not offside.

Good night Vienna.

3-1. FT.

Comfortably beaten in the end, they were dominant in the second half. Just a pity the crucial 2-1 goal was totally self-inflicted by Hart, after we had the VAR reprieve.

Injuries/lack of depth probably a factor as the game progressed. Missing both centre backs and then losing McGregor before half time. Not having Turnbull or Ababa either so we lacked control. Ended up with a midfield of Abildgaard, McCarthy and Haksabanovic who’ve barely played for Celtic, never mind together.

Need a few players back next week for the return game. All is not lost, as Shakhtar at home after that. We obviously need Real Madrid to win the games against the other two.

Didn’t see much of that (cc @Monkey_Allen) but frustrated by what I did get to see.

Seemed to have a decent spell just before they scored the first goal (looking back could McGregor have taken a yellow card on the edge of their box?). Seemed to lose confidence rapidly after our equaliser and never looked like controlling any sort of possession again.

Injuries definitely played a part - a very makeshift midfield by the end and the two second choice centre backs in from the start. Thought Welsh and Jenz did ok individually (though neither passed the ball well which we can’t really afford in this system) but were all over the place as a pair in terms of defensive alignment etc.

Jesus Jude Bellingham, what a pass! Guerrero rocket!

Can’t wait to see Jude linking up with Erling again

McGregor’s injury is his knee and Ange just said it “doesn’t look good”.

This spell of 2 games per week until the World Cup could be fairly unforgiving physically.

Real Madrid leading Shakhtar Donetsk.

McCarthy is definitely done. Goosed after 5 mins, embarrassing

That Dane that came on is shite too

I thought he was ok. He definitely looked a bit rusty but he won the ball back a few times and had a bit of physical presence about him.

Mooy and Turnbull being suddenly injured isn’t helpful.

One of the best first touch goals ever scored by Messi there.

If you saw that defending underage like what Milan just did there you’d give out.

oh lord

Jeff Hardy in goal for Kobenhavn.

Shambolic

Benfica seem to be going well. Good chance of finishing above Juve in the group. Estadio De Luiz packed to the rafters too. There’d usually be loads of vacant seats behind the goals there when you’d see them playing in Europe.
