Champions League 22/23 Matchday 5/6

They needed to win tonight to win the group, if Leipzig won. But you’d think they could manage it without Modric.

The Croatian manager Dalic will be apoplectic seeing it.

This is pretty embarrassing now. They’re not really doing anything too fast, fancy or impressive to get into shooting positions. Celtic looking very loose and ragged.

Jjjjjoooottttaaaaaaaaaa

Great FK. The celebration was a bit ott however

Jooooottttttaaaaaaaa

He’s celebrating getting a move away from Scotland.

Haven’t done the maths yet but think we’ll still be out despite the late goal.

Referee blew that up early but can’t see UEFA overturning it when it’s Real Madrid.

A lad for Bayern stopped the ball hitting his face by using his hands last night v inter
it was a cracking volley from the inter lad
after a check there was no Peno given
was worse than Celtic’s 2 tonight

I think Celtic can still play their football at this level while being more compact and harder to play against. I guess that’s the challenge for next season. You can’t really have a back four dropping off with a front three pressing in isolation. Too much distance from back to front and not enough mobility or a truly defensive minded player in midfield then either. I don’t think Ange rates this Abildgaard chap judging by his (lack of) use of him. You had Real Madrid getting in down the sides way too easily. Like I said, Celtic still played good football in most of the games but the finishing was dire and just a general openness/naĂŻvetĂ© is going to be exposed at the other end.

Cole Palmer starting for City, he is reputed to be a better talent than foden

Yeah the finishing was the big difference between the two teams in most games we played. We weren’t clinical enough, we gave other teams too much space, and we probably lack a bit of class at both ends.

Thought Starfelt was good tonight actually. Hart had done very well and wouldn’t be in a rush to replace him but he’s not going to win us many games at that elite level these days.

I think McGregor missing was a big loss. Ange has spoken about Abildgaard doing a pre season during the World Cup. Still think he’ll be involved after the break. But our shape isn’t good against the best teams who can drag our press wide and then play the ball into the middle where we have nobody.

Replacing Rogic hasn’t really changed that area defensively the way we might have hoped. O’Riley has had to sit deeper and we don’t have real athleticism in there. Hatate is probably our most mobile midfielder but even then he doesn’t have 90 minutes in him.

I think we lack some physical attributes in general. Carter Vickers is probably our only elite athlete type. Juranovic is quick but not Frimpong quick. Maeda is quick too but it’s more a volume of sprints than frightening pace all the time. And he’s not strong enough to go with it. But maybe that can be worked on.

No 8 o clock game standing out here. A lot of dead rubbers. Champions league goal show it is

That was an awful decision. Don’t know how the ref didn’t give it. ManĂ© it was.

Great finish, there’s goals flying In here

Twas shameful from Mane

I thought O’Riley was very good tonight, which is odd for the defensive midfielder in a 5-goal concession defeat.
