RTE chatting about the new round robin in the champions league. Very GAAesque
It’s like Martin Breheny in reverse
The quarter-finals were brilliant sure. Dortmund overturning Atletico, Madrid beating City on pens, Bayern v Arsenal and the PSG v Barca games.
In fairness to the RTÉ panel they are calling out the new system. Unlike Virgin Media where the normally shrewd Damien Delaney was gushing in his praise of all the extra matches.
There’s too many games
You’ll have to sit him down and explain the concept of a full kit wanker
It’s your duty
The weeks of the quarters were the best entertainment in 10 years
Sounds like he may have opted out himself… they were saying he went all out in his recovery to get back for Madrid for this stage of the season and had a setback in March… maybe the thinking was he’s been out since august so playing a run of matches at this level just after coming back wasn’t possible
Too much football on tv as it stands
Great piece.
Have to go back to the Barcelona v man United finals when two proper clubs meet in the final.
Great Kerry links there too or so the yerrahs would claim
I don’t think the Champions League has ever been in such ruddy health
Real Madrid v Liverpool (2018 and 2022) no? Real Madrid with 3 times as many European Cups as Barcelona and Liverpool with twice as many as Man United.
Liverpool aren’t a proper club they’ve one league title in 30 odd years
You’re a bigger eejit
The auld x3 and x2 line was too tempting to pass on.
Shur he hasn’t a notion
You have to have at least 5 European cups to be considered European royalty
There are three criteria to be considered European royalty.
i) A club which has won 4 European Cups or more.
ii) A club which has won consecutive European Cups.
iii) A club which is the only club from their particular country to win a European Cup.
The qualifying clubs are:
Real Madrid, Liverpool, AC Milan, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Ajax, Inter Milan, Benfica, Nottingham Forest, Celtic, Red Star Belgrade, Olympique Marseille, Steaua Bucharest.
