Champions League is back again this week, some decent looking ties in it…Mourinho back against his old club, Milan v United and Lyon V Madrid also look tasty…
Full draw
Stuttgart vs Barcelona
Olympiacos vs Bordeaux
Inter Milan vs Chelsea
Bayern Munich vs Fiorentina
CSKA Moscow vs Sevilla
Olympique Lyon v Real Madrid
Porto vs Arsenal
AC Milan vs Manchester Utd
Stuttgart vs Barcelona
Barcelona - too strong for Stuttgart
Olympiacos vs Bordeaux
Bordeaux - better team. Topped their group in the earlier stages.
Inter Milan vs Chelsea
Chelsea - should be too string for Inter who flatter to deceive at this level.
Bayern Munich vs Fiorentina
Fiorentina - very impressed with them in group stages and should be too good for Van Gaal’s Bayern
CSKA Moscow vs Sevilla
CSKA Moscow - again looked decent in the Group Stages where Sevilla topped a very ordinary group. I would back the Russians here.
Olympique Lyon v Real Madrid
Real - should have too much for Lyon.
Porto vs Arsenal
Arsenal - should be too strong for Porto but I wouldn’t discount Porto completely here.
AC Milan vs Manchester Utd
Man Utd - coming into good form at the moment and are favourites for the EPL. Hopefully Milan turn up like they did against Madrid but can’t see them doing Man Utd.
I’d say Hulk will have some joy against Arsenal’s defence.
Raphael Honigstein has been saying that Bayern are playing superb at the moment too. I’d say they could well take Fiorentina.
Stuttgart vs Barcelona
Barcelona
Olympiacos vs Bordeaux
Bordeaux
Inter Milan vs Chelsea
Inter. It will be a very tight tie IMO
Bayern Munich vs Fiorentina
Bayen- Bayern have come on leaps and bounds in the last 2 months, they’ve looked very impreesive in their league with Ribery and Robben back fit.
CSKA Moscow vs Sevilla
Sevilla- will just about shade it.
Olympique Lyon v Real Madrid
Real , Lyon have been piss poor this season in Ligue 1, they are terrible at the back.
Porto vs Arsenal
Arsenal. If they get a result in Portugal they are as good as through.
AC Milan vs Manchester Utd
Man Utd , Utd will be too good for the Italians on current form.
Like others have said their form has gone in opposite directions since then. Bayern have been excellent since Decemberish and Fiorentina are going backwards. Has the makings of a decent contest though.
would fancy bayern for this…on a serious run in germany…fiorentina are very hit and miss…beat liverpool in florence due to chronic defending and nothing else…
not too sure about bayern munchen.
for some unknown reason the middle eastern ESPN persists with showing the bundesliga every saturday afternoon.
i decided to give it a go as its winter and i must say i think it is a shockingly poor league.
bayern came out here to play maccabi haifa and were more efficinet and resolute than impresseive, hapoel tel aviv beat hamburg out here as well much to my shock in the UEFA cup.
Bordeaux comprehensively put away bayern as well twice in the group stages of the CL.
the bundesliga appears to be made up of mainly german and central eurpoean players, there is also a heavy concentration of balkan and turkish footballers plying their trade here. whilst these players are technically efficient and very good on the ball the german bundesliga club sides ( and i include bayern) seem to have slipped to the second tier of european club football (id have budesliga / ligue une / seria a on this level).
Bayerns performance in the Nou Camp last year summed up German domestic football for me.
the top 3-4 clubs in england and spain will dominate this tournamanet for the foreseeeable future i think, (possibly one of the ,italian clubs may be able to compete) but i confidently think that in the next five - ten years the winners will come each year from the man yoo, chelea, arsenal, barca, real group.
the bundesliga, ligue une and serie a are fast developing into feeder leagues for these top clubs.
Bayern v Fiorentina is a tie i’m looking forward to, Milan v Utd also should be a cracker. I think Milan will give Utd loads. Inter v Chelsea is something which doesn’t interest me at all, i don’t enjoy watching Chelsea play or indeed Mourinho teams…
Hope Milan get back to form they were showing before Christmas. They beat Udinese at the weekend, Huntelaar getting a couple, and Pato scored after an outrageous trhough ball from Ronaldinho. did made a hames of their first goal, and I think it was Flamini, not sure, who played 2 lads onside to put them clean through for their second late on. Milan looked really good attacking tho.
The one thing about Utd, is that for a completely average midfield, they play really well. I dont think there is any player in the middle who would be a great player at any other big club, but Fergie gets the best out of them. I do feel they rely on Rooney for a spark tho, and if he is kept quiet, I cant see how Utd will find another player to step up. Milan defensively are ok, but not great. They have a couple of young lads in the full back positions for the last while, so not sure if they will retain their spots. And I dont trust Thiago at centre back either.
