One of the advantages of getting numbers back is that you can press them when they bring it forward. Maloney made an important intervention there when they had a runner breaking and when we got it forward theyâd still 4 back against Samaras. We had men over defensively doing the lazy thing and standing beside the centre halves instead of taking up clever positions or pressing the ball.
I feel sorry for Mulgrew at this stage. Miles off the pace and losing every little battle with his first touch or with an opponent. Donât want to be too harsh on him so hope itâs just a bad start but this is poor stuff.

Pass from Juarez to Mulgrew was a yard out but he could still have taken it easily. Gave up instead.
Yeah he chose to blame the pass there in case he got to the ball and fucked up. Heâs not as bad a player as he looks tonight but heâs lost all confidence alright. No real option for him on the bench though.
