As @Cheasty was saying last night, this has been a very forgettable Champions League. No comparison to the blood and thunder of the 2018 Quarter-Finals for instance.

As you also alluded to here before, top level professional football has become very predictable and stale. A monopoly compared to 20 years ago even. I’d say there was great intrigue surrounding European competitions in the 1970’s/80’s and 90’s.

Agreed, maybe it’s a form of nostalgia, but to mind the competition has really gone downhill since the pandemic. This has to go down as one of the most uneventful knockout phases in memory.

Having nothing clubs like City constantly in the latter stages is definitely also a factor. Whatever they, PSG, Newcastle and the likes end up doing will be completely irrelevant to me.

The fact that a club like Brighton, who are trying to do things the right way wont make the Champions League next year because a place like Saudi Arabia want to sports wash their awful country will be a another straw on the camels (excuse the pun) back in the death of football as we know it.

Football well and truly got in to bed with these, they’ll have to deal with the consequences.

So its ok for the old Cartel like Bayern, Man Utd, Real Madrid to spend money but nobody else can?

As far as I know, the government in Spain, to date, haven’t committed vast amounts of human rights abuses. They also don’t own Real Madrid and use Real Madrid as a vessel to hide said human rights abuses that they don’t commit.
