A lot of penalties in football arenât clear cut enough that video refs are always going to get them right anyway. How many times do you see a game where two pundits disagree on whether something should be a penalty or not?
I agree. That Atletico penalty looked outside the box and there are far more debatable examples, but even on that one itâs very hard to be definitive.
When you see this image, itâs impossible to argue really that there was definitely no contact on the line or in the box. And could you really overrule the referee then?
Sorry, of course. Couldnât remember that voice. Annoyed the shit out of me there - Bender a Swiss international apparently. And then Mbappe gets the ball 30 yards out and heâs saying âIt has to be a third surelyâ - giving the game away that he knew the score I imagine.
If you take the major football nations, they arenât producing quality players in abundance.
England doesnât produce many intelligent, technically aware players and hasnât done for a good 15-20 years.
Spainâs golden generation is on the way out and whatâs coming after them doesnât look to be nearly as good.
Argentina have declined seriously in terms of producing quality young players.
Italy hasnât been producing players the way they used to.
The Dutch are at their lowest ebb in living memory.
Germany have had a good generation since 2010 but they also relied on a smattering of experience and didnât look nearly as good last summer without it - and that generation will need replacing within 2-3 years.
France is the one big exception amongst the major nations. Maybe Brazil too.
I doubt JD has been in the top circle long enough to make this right, but I think we can be sure this wont happen again now heâs got his feet under the big table.
No he fucking wasnât. We were denied a clear fucking handball penalty against the scum at the weekend, fucking ref didnât even fucking refer it. I know we won 2-0 and thatâs always good against the scum, but if I was the video ref at that game we would have 3 penalties and I would sent off 3 of the scum and their wanker of a manager.
The VAR is the thin end of the wedge and it must be fought against. I hate the idea of it. Youâve got a ref and two linesmen and some tool fourth official in case one of them has a heart attack. Thatâs enough.
Yes most of them are completely incompetent morons, but do we want the game stopped every minute like in bloody rugby league or that Trumpian âsportâ they play in the US? No we donât.
FIFA have ruined football enough, the world cup will soon become a 76 team joke, the Champions League is about as exciting as my arse. There are absolutely no interesting people in football anymore, just corporate stooges, who frankly donât even play decent football.
The one fucking thing we still have is the ability to be completely incandescent with rage about a poor refereeing decision. Take that away and we all just go back to playing draughts.
It would be the death of boards like TFK.
We must fight this utterly contemptuous and ridiculous idea. Itâs been a joke in cricket, it canât be allowed to catch on in football. If it does, weâll have it in hurling within 15 years and that truly would be a disaster.
