Champions League - Third Qualifying Round

Justice was served:clap:

Good thing he ignores his manager.

I hope we donā€™t regret that tonight. We dominated the game without creating too many good chances.

Commons was our best player by a mile. Forrest, Stokes and Sammy struggled to impress themselves upon the game and we only saw fleeting moments of them. Lennon really needs to have a word with Stokes and the role he has to carry out, he was coming far too deep tonight. I know itā€™s not his natural game to be the focal point through the middle but that was his role tonight and he needs to play that role.

Brown had a good game in midfield and I though the full backs were solid. Ambrose was a bombscare in the second half but had a steady second 45. Wilson had a couple of shaky moments as well.

Kayal was the biggest disappointment of the night, the ultimate coward. He reminds me of an Israeli Roy Keane, heā€™s very selective when he wants to be the hardman, he will pick his moments and his targets but when the going is tough he doesnā€™t want to know about it. He needs to be chased and we have serious problems in midfield at the moment. We have only two player we can rely on in the centre of midfield and one of them suffered badly from injuries last year. Iā€™d imagine we will be going with three in the middle in a lot of European games this season so it is imperative we buy at least two decent central midfielders before the transfer deadline passes.

60 odd posts and no mention of the score. Anyone?

Celtic 1-0 Elfsborg

Ledley added an authority and composure to the midfield when he came on - heā€™ll definitely start next week with another weekā€™s training behind him. Kayal was a major disappointment and a central midfield signing is definitely required.

I thought Samaras had an outstanding game and Commons was very good too. Izaguirre was brilliant for the goal and I expect him to have an excellent season, as mentioned to Rocko offline.

Stokesā€™ limitations were exposed tonight and we need to buy another striker with similar attributes to Hooper. Stokes is skillful and a bit of a maverick but we needed a more constant presence in and around the box and somebody to be sharp onto the ball to sniff out chances.

They were very poor in the second half and resorted to hacking, time wasting and simulation. Christ, Bangura has totally and utterly burned his bridges with Celtic after trying to get Wilson sent off.

1-0 is okay. Weā€™ve consistently scored goals away from home in Europe under Lennon and preventing an away goal was important tonight too. They didnā€™t have a chance in the second half after a few hairy defensive moments for us in the first period.

That said, if they score first over there and get a surge of confidence from it then itā€™ll be difficult. But Iā€™m fairly pleased with the scoreline overall, even though I thought we lacked a bit of patience in possession and overdid the attempted high diagonal switch to the flanks.

didnt see the match lads as im working from home tonight after training
seems a very similar situation now to basle / Maccabi TA last night
both of the stronger home sides taking a precarious 1-0 into the second leg

Disappointing to read that about Stokes.
That comparison with Keane a joke? Keane was anything but a coward when playing in fairness. Always look to get on the ball and was there when going gets tough. In fact not sure of another player who would perform so well in adversary.

What was attendance tonight as matter of interest?

Just over 40k, larry.

Keane was a coward and regularly got upstaged against better opponents.

You donā€™t half talk shit at times.

Iā€™ll always remember what Redondo did to Keane at Old Trafford, the myth that has been built up around Ireland about him is laughable - you have lads saying that games were won due to him staring at people at putting tackls in. He played in a shit league all his career and was regularly on the end of hidings when they faced the big boys in Europe.

Then he would choose pick his victims carefully and his moments carefully. Did you ever see Keane do something really brave? No, you didnā€™t, he was never rated in Europe either.

McCarthy, Charlton and Ferguson all had the last laugh with Keane - heā€™s a born loser.

He dragged us to a world cup. I was at the home game against a cracking Portugal side and he single handedly took the game to them, he was immense. He destroyed Juventus away and countless others in the same manner.

Give us a top ten of the hidings he got off the big boys in Europe.

compare his actions with Linekar when it came to the crisp ad, Lineker had no problem starring in the ad and eating the crisps for all to see. The traitor his behind a leprechaun mask and only meekly took it off at the end- cowardly shit

The traitor was a coward as a football player and he shat himself in Saipan too

the fact that he stayed in Britain when he could have gone to the continent was also cowardly

Boerrigter didnā€™t train today but he hasnā€™t been ruled out of Wednesday eveningā€™s second leg yet. Celtic will fly out to Sweden tomorrow and the game kicks-off at the earlier time of 6.45pm on Wednesday. I know BBC Scotland are showing it live but have Setanta or anyone picked it up yet?

sport5+ in Israel will be pal.
Mohammed Salah refused to travel to Israel in the finish for Basle, heā€™s a huge loss
Im predicting Maccabi to win 1-0 but Basle to win on spotters

Can get BBC Scotland on Sky so we may have to view it in the 51.

Are you sure you canā€™t tune it in? My old man has a heap of the regional Brit stations tuned in on his Sky box.

Not that Iā€™d ever attempt to deflect business away from PJ and the lads on Haddington Road.

You can definitely tune BBC Scotland in through the ā€œOther Channelsā€ section of Sky.

I donā€™t have Sky, hence going to PJ where they have Sky and watching it there.
