Cheltenham-Early thoughts

Jesus thatā€™s pretty damning. Canā€™t be easy for the young kid to have that sort of handicap on him.

Being from Cork is bad enough as it is.

You should have posted that in the celebrity spotting thread. Itā€™s gone to the dogs since the virus. Fagan has had an easy run there. Heā€™s cute enough that fellow.

McGeady is so far above that level, itā€™s ridiculous. Itā€™s like heā€™s playing an entirely different sport.

Probably lacked the real pace to be a true great but Mcgeady had fantastic ability.

The move to moscow in his prime was a mistep youā€™d have to think

Mcgeady was the only shining light of the misearable Trapatoni era.

I presume Russia was his biggest windfall ?

i think we need to put into perspective how really poor league one before going nuts about a lad who probably could be at a higher level but is happy where he is
look at teams like rochdale, they are full are lads who played for cork and glenavon, ronan curtis at portsmouth an average LOI player is considered one of the best players in league 1 for example.

look, we are where we are as the fella says and given we are probably starting a keeper who was recently playing in the fourth division of english football (travers) out of necessity means that desperate times do call for desperate measures and old lads playing outfield in league one and league two like Macgeady and eoin doyle probably should be in the converstionā€¦ its a brutally sad state of affairs lads- to put the sunderland nonsense into perspective did salford fucking city win that thing as well - richie towell was there not so long agoā€¦
but thats the way it isā€¦ lets just put the macgeady thing in perspective tho before getting all green and misty eyed.
should he be in the squad tho given the current hole we are in ? yeah probably

We need to build the team about Aiden.

Kieren Westwood played for the Owls (cc @thedancingbaby) yesterday, despite a recent injury scare. He was interviewed recently where he said he would gladly play for Ireland again. He said he appreciated Big Mick giving him a call during his reign to say Big Darren was his undisputed #1 and he didnā€™t necessarily want to bring Westwood over and away from his young family for 7/10 day international breaks to be an understudy. I wonder if Spock will call him up.

Heā€™ll have ample experience of picking the ball out of the net anyway

thereā€™s a heap of irish lads playing with nigel clough at Mansfield , one of the quinns is there and a classic noel King rhys Grego Cox style character a fella called Harry charlsely who king picked for the 21s because he was in the Peterborough youth team or something plays s bit

He wont

Iā€™m not really advocating for McGeady to be called back in; I would never have been his greatest fan even at his best. I donā€™t know if his work rate is sufficiently good at this point.

It depends on your priorities; if itā€™s about a building a team going forward, then thereā€™s not much point. If itā€™s just about getting to the World Cup; then maybe there is an argument. League One isnā€™t a great level but Iā€™d always be in favour of bringing in players who are confident and playing regularly. Generally, Iā€™d much rather have a fella scoring goals at Championship level than a player really stuggling for gametime in the Premier League.

League One isnā€™t great but he is so far above that level at the moment, itā€™s ridiculous. Heā€™s double-marked every week, but he can produce those moments of magic to win games. Weā€™re not exactly blessed with creativity; he is a frustrating player but if you needed a goal with 15/20 minutes to go, there are worse players you could throw on.

On Mickeeā€™s point, Rochdale play an alright brand of football but are probably the worst team in the division. I like Curtis but he hasnā€™t been starting regularly in recent times either.

suprised @Bandage isnā€™t advocating for kabia connolly and macgrath the best young attacking players in the spl to be called up.
we could add spl team of the season man Alan Power as well also for experience and maybe that lad from cork who plays center half for St mirren also if Duffy is being considered

If we are going below championship we may as well give some LOI lads a go

absolutely
Howā€™s Aaron maceniff getting on at the diet huns?
