The council are gone mad buying house now rather than building them as it’s less hassle.They tried to buy my old house off me 2 years ago but I wouldn’t sell it to them.Offered full price straight away.

Totally morally wrong that the council would bid against tax paying couples looking to buy a house.
€388k to purchase. Another €60k to refurbish it. People handed a free house for €450k while, presumably, other people looking to get on the property ladder are outbid by an arm of the state.

Mate of mine paid a lot of cash for a house in a nice estate in Cork 10 years ago. House next door sold to council few years ago and there has been mayhem there since. He has since moved out. Council renting house from him now as it is unsaleable

What moron would trust our councils to build houses.
That’s why I wouldn’t sell to them.I was in an estate, the neighbours either side of me gave big money during the boom.Another house in the estate round the corner was for sale at the same time as mine and the council bought it.Gutted it even though it was only 10/12 years old and stuck a traveller with a pile of kids in there.

I had a similar situation when I was renting out my house a few years ago. The council offered €100 a month over the asking price without looking at the place. I told them to sling their hook, wouldnt do it to the neighbours
