I have four kids of my own mate, and my wife isn’t a teacher so I don’t have the endless holidays that people think, I won’t be spending a few weeks off in Africa.

Surely as a teacher you realise if you don’t hold people accountable for their behaviour they’ll only take more liberties ??

Well, I’d be of the belief that you hold the criminals accountable for the criminality, you don’t hold the entire community accountable, isn’t that logical?
But if you see more issues arising by generation then something is going wrong ,no?
Of course there’s an awful lot wrong,
But why does that mean that you can say what you want about ‘travellers’ as if they’re all the one, when attitudes like that are prevalent it is not helpful, quite the opposite I’d have thought.

That’s fair enough what you say but from what I can see is that there is a serious lack of accountability within the community and their spokespeople … the ‘why’ is always a good place to start when examining certain issues or mindsets

I think anyone with a brain realises the traveller thing is the ultimate chicken and egg scenario. The more they are treated like shite the more they act like cunts. The more they act like cunts the more they are treated like shite. Some people think its up to the majority of educated people in society to change attitudes to travellers first and bring them with us. Most people disagree and think it’s up to the travellers to change and we’ll all start treating them better.

Education is probably the way out, but how do you incentivise it enough to change the attitude towards it?

Peter Casey going from less than 1% to more than 20% of the vote in the Presidential election, within a few days of standing up against travellers tells you all you need to know about what people think of them.

They are already given every incentive to stay in school. The problem is that education as we see it is not important in the community and as long as that is the case you are wasting time. It is more important for a girl to be married off and for a lad to learn how to lay tar or any number of jobs that is done by the community.
