In the football championship in Galway, if anyone is to dethrone the mighty Corofin, iād fancy someone like Mountbellow/Moylough or maybe Salthill. Moycullen could be capable but maybe not for another couple of years. Annaghdown also not without hope. Galway championship is competitive, Corofin have had a few close shaves in the last couple of years. Theyāve just been a bit too cute for everyone else.
All depends on Con. They are about 6 points a weaker team without him. He is going to have a busy few months as Cuala footballers will be pushing hard for a Senior B title
The breaks as a result of the injuries may have worked out well as he couldāve been overloaded with games. But weāll see how heās going when they start back.
As an aside in itching for the little ones training to start again
Yeah. They would be next but may not be ready yet. Iām really looking forward to it. I wouldnāt say there has been championship hurling in July in Dublin since the 80s
Both youngish teams and summer hurling might suit them more than the physicality of October on a heavy pitch.
It would be good for Dublin hurling if a Northside club won it. Itās been dominated by Crokes, Boden + Cuala for the bones of 15 years. Forgot about UCD winning a few also.
It will be interesting to see in the club championships what new players show up. To borrow a phrase from Gerry Thornley āboltersā and if they will be added to county panels in which are defacto trials.
Barring it being either a lad who was previously involved or a fella who has been doing serious strength work I think it would be a big ask for a club player to make the step up to intercounty in a matter of weeks. The cult of the manager wonāt allow it and I doubt there are too many who could make that transition either.
Iām not in the know with the Wexford club scene but I have some sort of inkling that there are footballers there that might not be far off the hurling squad. A few lads have crossed over in recent years like Donohoe. @Bandage or some other Wexicans might confirm.
Iād say the hurlers have everyone they want from the football side already. Chin, McGovern and Donoghue would all have played senior football with the county, a few more hurlers would walk straight onto the team too.
