Club Championships 2024

I’m going for the big treble in 2025.

Rory McIlroy to win the US Masters
Jimmy White to win the World Snooker Championship
Aidan O’Shea to win either an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship or a Mayo Senior Football Championship

Soupy doing soupy things.

I hadn’t noticed that, actually. It must have been a tough few months mentally recently, but still a shock all the same.

Clann Eireann were champions in 2021. Crossmaglen are suffering from being a decent side but they compare very badly against the sides of the 2000s, so they get a fair amount of stick even within their own club. Think the bookies had Cross to win yesterday’s game by a couple of points.
Lurgan have both teams in the senior final, and a Lurgan team in the intermediate final as well.

I suppose when you’ve won 40 something championships it’s always a shock when you don’t win it

A fair attempt - Clarinbridge as short as 12s with Paddy and Doon in the mix. They don’t seem to care too much for Na Piarsaigh or the Dublin teams.

I’m still drawn to OLG - they were Ballyhale esque yesterday.

Cross dont hang about when they fail to win Championships…

Elsewhere Kilmacud Crokes Hurlers warmed up for their County Semi Final v Lucan at the weekend with a run out against Ballygunner on the BOICMC on Saturday last. Probably the final game on this years circuit and what better way to finish than a Hors Categorie or beyond classification clash in Tour De France terms.

Kilmacud have had a funny old year. They pissed the Dublin league way back and then played two Championship games in 7 days back in mid July but by my reckoning have only played twice since competitively in 12 or so weeks. A bit of a joke really. They have the ability to win the All Ireland if they get out of Dublin but that’s a big if, and Lucan will be licking their lips.

Risky enough playing a practice match the weekend before a county semi-final. Would they not have played that when they had a break on quarter-final weekend? I’d be interested to hear how St Mullins have managed the practice match circuit since their county title in August. Not playing in Leinster until November against Kilcormac/Ballinamere.

The 3rd bout of the trilogy between Glen/Kilcoo is gonna happen.

Glen need to get going or they’ll be out after Sunday.

Theres a malaise after developing in Derry football. If they allow Rory and Mickey to bring them down, it will be the worst degree of mismanagement since Limerick’s handling of the U21s at the turn of century.

Pacing themselves, peaking at the right time etc.

Worse really. Derry could be AI contenders.

As Ryan Porter says, ‘dont burn the roast’

Massive amount of talent there, allied to more coming through. And they are burning through the time to win them.

A collective COTY nomination required here

Great piece by Niall McIntyre, I didn’t think he had it in him.
