Paddy Leavy is very recognisable on the pitch. Socks up and brick flicks
Is he the Wexford goalie?
Youâd want to have had a very casual knowledge of hurling if Kevin Foley or âStone Coldâ Cathal Dunbar arenât in your top 10 strawberries.
Paudie Foley would be known up and down the country not to mention D O Keeffe
Technically neither of them play for Wexford anymore. Mark Fanning and *Liam Ryan do though.
*Occasionally when fit.
And yet still better known than a Ballygunnar player
Iâm not from waterford but I could rattle off the ballygunner team that started their all ireland win over ballyhale nĂł bĂłther
I wouldnt be bragging about that
I know Lee Chin and I think thereâs a Shaun Foley and a Conor OâDonnell?
So youâre wrong. People do know who plays for Wexford.
Mahony x4, OâKeeffe, Hutchinson, Ruddle, Fitzgerald, Peter Hogan and Leavy are 10 recognised players.
No disrespect but if half the Wexford team were in Australia, nobody outside the county would notice.
Iâd say Peter Hoganâs own relations wouldnât know what he looks like
I was certain that was a canary in the mine
Harry Ruddle sounds like the name of a a character from âThe Victorâ comic book - kinda like Alf Tupper
Heâs no Harry Ladd.
The recognition of Wexford versus Ballygunner players is easily the most random argument Iâve read in a good while. God bless this forum.
A great little debate I got going here of a Wednesday evening.
The usually very astute @Aertel220 was making out that Wexford being shown once on terrestrial television in 2024 and once in 2025 was some kind of success story but I think it proves my point more than anything. Bar Lee Chin and the OâConnorâs nobody knows who plays for Wexford. They could all be in Australia and nobody would notice.
Dublin got a bit of exposure this year which was great but you still wouldnât hang your hat on the casual hurling follower being able to name more than 5 or 6 of their current players.
Thereâs a want in some lads
In fairness @peddlerscross who hangs out with the Ballygunner fellas morning, noon and night is able to name 10 of their players off the top of his head.
I will tend to agree with you here but I reckon my knowledge of Ballygunner hurlers is largely down to trekking to the Gaelic grounds every year in the hope a limerick team will beat them to zero avail.
You get it.
The point I was making earlier was that BG have been shown live on terrestrial television around 4 or 5 times annually for the past 5 or 6 years and the general hurling public are going to be more familiar with their players than the likes of your Wexfordâs/Dublinâs who would have been lucky to be shown once or twice a year in Championship on terrestrial television in that timeframe.
Of course many of the TFK militants can never accept me being right on anything and will try to twist things to suit their own agenda,
