Club Championships 2025/26

A right man for stating the obvious and Monday morning quarter backing on Laochra Gael.

Ball put over the bar from 30 yards out in front of the posts; ā€œĆ”rd scór ar fadā€

Interesting conversation on ballygunner on Smaller fish. They really need another couple of all irelands soon to be regarded as one of the all time best teams. Munsters are fine but Christy made a good point of the consistent 8 week break. They nearly have a second pre season before coming up against teams who have battled through likes of Limerick and Clare.

Ballyhale won 4 in 8. Portumna 3 in 4. Athenry won 3 in 5. Even Cuala did back to back. It’s time for Ballygunner to start backing up all this discourse around them

You could have the likes of Gizzy Lyng, Naoise Waldron and some Colaiste Eoin alumni to cover the Irish speaker angle for the Leinster finals.

Thank fuck for that

Absolutely no hint of irony I suppose that those Galway teams mentioned had an even longer break than 8 weeks to have their second pre season and get themselves ready for two games to win those All Ireland’s.

Sure Wolly was raving about them being the greatest club team of all time. He said Soky was the best goalie of all time.

I wouldn’t normally go along with Woolie but he’s half right there.

O’Keeffe had issues in his younger days organising his defence, but he turned into the best keeper ever.

There you have it so. Woolie gets hurling

Point taken although Galway teams had a very competitive county championship to get through too every year

You could argue the toss on that. Portumna won a few County Final’s by nearly 20 points in their pomp.

Meanwhile it looks like Glen Maghera are on a mission to save the GAA by themselves. Its probably too late but fair play to them for giving it a go. The split season was always going to make semi professionalism inevitable and accelerate the complete decoupling of Club and County with County players no longer lining out for their clubs at all, but if Glen can delay it another few years, they will have done the state some service.

I was just looking there. Newtown meet ballygunnar in the
05 final Munster final. 3k so a slightly bigger attendance on basically the same weekend 20 years on.

I recognised more of the ballygunnar team from 05 than the current one.

Limerick footballers back training already to get their season under way on the second of January.

The whole thing from the club to the inter county season is completely broken.

You could cut the inter county season games by about 50 percent and space games and codes better and end up with a stronger product.

It’s mind boggling this is being allowed to continue.

Both the club and inter county championships boil down a few games in a short period of time to decide things as well where an injury or two can decide the year.

The spacing of games is a joke. The final round of Munster and Leinster hurling round robins were on the same day the last few years.

I don’t get this argument. I’d much rather have the momentum Limerick, Clare and the rest have. Two weeks leading into a game is ideal when you are going well.

People were making the same point about the Wexford champions recently they had nearly two months before their first round and looked flat in Leinster but Wexford changed their structure/timing and now the Martins are flying it.

What Ballygunner are doing at the moment is harder to negotiate in my opinion.

You can argue the toss with these things. Teams who lose after a break can use it as an excuse.

Christy O’Connor has a bit of a thing against Ballygunner going back to a Munster Club match with Doora/Barefield in 2001.

Point taken, i’ve nothing against BG in general it was just an interesting point I spotted. Could definitely be argued the other way to be fair.

All the same, there is that added pressure for them to go and win another. I know everyone has pressure to win one but it feels like they should have more than one given their provincial dominance.

Winning All Ireland’s is hard.

Dr. Crokes have seven Munster Club Football Titles won since 2006 and one All Ireland to show for it. And they were damn lucky to win that one against 14 man Slaughtneil.

Might say more of the standard of Munster club football . How many Munster clubs have won it since the turn of century ? Crokes and nemo?

Yes it is, which is why they need to win more to be considered one of the great teams

I see Lee Walker has gone back to O’Hanrahans @Aertel220. He’s some yoke that lad.
