Club Football V International Football

Been a lot of talk about international football going downhill but I must say international football seems a lot more appealing to me recently. Thoughts of going back to humdrum nature of club football be it EPL, SPL, La Liga or whatever after past week is boring to be honest. Part of it may be due to over exposure of it for me on tv while main reason is to me anyway representing your country or supporting your country just can’t really be replicated in club football.
International football seems to matter hugely to Irish players anyway and thats probably one of reasons we had succesful qualifying campaign.

Club & country but Club before country every time.

The Premiership seems humdrum now alright, but the big international days come and go, things always calm down fairly quickly

Id rather SRFC win a corner than the free state win the world cup

Ya International football means more to me too and in one off ties like playoffs is a hell of a lot more exciting. A lot more variables to it too, its often a bit like soccer when you are a kid ie you meet up and play the game. No buying players just making the most of the players at your disposal. There is a certain romance to international football that has long since disappeared from club football.

International football tournaments are superb aswell. A true test of any player’s character ie playing games in quick succession, virtually living in other player’s pockets for a month, penalty shoot outs etc. It has it all.

KIB makes the shocking admission that his national team means more to him than a team in another country:rolleyes:

What bout those Roma gypsies you claim to follow?

i dont follow them- i support them:rolleyes:

No easy points to be had for KIB Man here

Which team means more to you - Roma or Ireland?

As Roma or the free state?- it really depends who’s asking & the context of the question & what image i would like to portray at that particular moment

Spoofing again …

Any day that eleven men in green (or any other colour) go out to play sport after standing to Ahmrn na bhFiann pisses all over anything else for me. My great grand-uncle translated that ditty. Fuck club football except for UCD and the Seagulls.

That’s outstanding

Anymore thoughts on this. Have found this World Cup to be very entertaining to watch not just in terms of quality of football but also because of greater variety you seem to get in international football where teams can be very strong in certain positions and then woeful in others. Clash of styles and football cultures is also far greater than you’d get in EPL or La Liga or even Champions League. Thoughts of new EPL,SPL season etc is awful humdrum to me.

A few poor enough games to start the World Cup but the quality since then has been excellent. Teams seem a bit more liberated now and it’s attacks that are winning games, rather than defences.

The tournaments are great for this though with games close together and you get good exposure to all teams very quickly. Would prefer UEFA/FIFA to play qualifiers together in blocks to generate a bit more interest but as I posted on the World Cup thread earlier I think UEFA really need to look at how they structure qualifying. Bigger groups with two of each seed would help things but you’d need to shorten the qualifying rounds for European Championships to compensate - possibly by going knockout.

Very mixed World Cup in my opinion. The standard has improved after a very poor first 5 days or so, but even in the second round there’s been some low quality games such as yesterday’s offerings.

I can’t wait for the SPL season to start and I’m counting down the days to The Emirates Cup.

I’ve really enjoyed the WC overall and it beats the pants off most club games at this stage. There is so little imagination and proper defending and passing in the EPL these days its a joke. Spain is decent to watch as most teams have a playmaker almost as much of a necessity as having a winger or a striker.

If we could get a mix of a league with quality defending like the Italian, with as many creative players as in Spain then you’d have a mighty league. I quite like watching some of the German league games, lots of technically gifted players in it. They are very fit, but are a bit less retarded than some of the EPL “athletes”.

I love attacking full backs, and thats why this tournament has been so enjoyable for me.

The battle of Toronto is a little over 2 weeks away now. Cant wait for that.

Diving, bitching, whingeing and generally acting the pussy for a load of money V diving, bitching, whingeing and generally acting the pussy for your country(and a whole lot less money)

Hm

The wuddled cup and international DBW&GAtP gets the Piles vote.
