Could we get this back on track? This thread is for songs that can justifiably be considered to be amongst the greatest songs ever written…not some niche, average offering that you just happen to be listening to at the moment. Its certainly not for anything by gerry rafferty…ffs, alan partridge would have more street cred.

By way of example, please consider the following… they’re songs which you may not like, but which you’ll admit are timeless, widely appreciated, often covered/performed, and absolute masterpieces/bangers
