Itās definitely a factor in rating Messi. Thereās no doubting how good he is but he hasnāt been able to be anything like as influential for Argentina and thatās the case at a good few tournaments now. Maradonaās influence on his teams and dragging team-mates to a higher level is unique really.

Maradona was special because everything was off the cuff, he was special because he had the heart of a lion and he was special because he was such an inspiring figure, heās done a lot of shitty things in his life.
