Copa America - Chile 2015

@Nembo_Kid has been royally mugged off here, hasnā€™t he? Finally, Messi proves himself the greatest on the planet, and steps out from Maradonnaā€™s shadow by providing 3 (three) assists against the world-renowned Paraguayan defence in a Copa America Semi Final. Paraguay boasting a defence made up of 38 and 39 years olds had no answer to the greatest player on the planet, who ,again, surprisingly failed to score against a team ranked 85th in the world.

Mugged off good and proper.

Keep clutching at straws lads.

The guy who breaks all scoring records at club level still canā€™t score from open play in knockout international football. Messi hasnā€™t scored a goal from open play in full international knockout football since 2008. Thatā€™s 7 years ago. Best player in the world? Hardly?

Fucking hell, lads are judging & lauding Messi against a pub side like Paraguay. In the fucking Copa.

The list still stands at

  1. Diego

2, etc. The rest

As I suspected you didnā€™t watch the game and just checked who scored this morning. What player in the world is better than him then?

What age are you?

Old enough to have seen the greatest play in his pomp and know a fraud when I see one. Diego stands alone.

Cristy isnā€™t being discussed here, mate, but good to see youā€™ve come around.

Jesus sid, that is poor even by your standards

My standards are impeccable.

How come a guy who is lauded as the best because he rips it up with Barca can be so ineffectual by contrast with his country. Argentina have a wealth of attacking options and they are sitting their ass on the bench in order to play to Messiā€™s strengths. He is being outshone by guys like Di Maria and Aguero.

If heā€™s the best player in the world he should be carrying a star studded Argentina to glory. Instead heā€™s taking a backward seat and letting the supposed lesser names show the leadership.

Messi is a guy who can be so effective when he has the perfect environment around him and the whole game plan is tailored to him. Messi with Argentina is a much better barometer of his overall ability and more of his character and personality. Look at the way Suarez is imperative to Uruguay, Zlatan to Sweden. These guys go out and consistently to the business for their countries who donā€™t have anywhere near the level of talent in that Argentina squad.

Why is he such an inferior player for Argentina than Barcelona? Argentina have sacrificed talent like Higuain, Lavezzi, Icardi, Dybala and Tevez in order to get the best out of Messi?

You tell me why it hasnā€™t worked?

A true great would flourish and leado no matter what the parameters. Messi is not a true great.

Both of those players were miles worse than Messi in the world cup and Messi is playing better than them in this competition as well. You would know that if you watched the games

Also @Nembo_kid what do you mean it hasnā€™t worked? They should have won the world cup and will probably win the Coca America. Thatā€™s pretty impressive if you ask me

Flesh that out a little.

So you are at least 40 then. Thatā€™s surprising tbh. Didnā€™t think you were an oul lad

40 is the new 30 pal.

They were way better than Germany in the final

As an Argentinian I wouldnā€™t even say that.

What are you talking about. Di Maria and Mascherano were the stars for Argentina in the World Cup. Di Maria and Aguero both missed a good deal of the World Cup with injury.

Messi did shag all when they met the serious teams. Itā€™s clear you have the blinkers on when it comes to Mythi and donā€™t want to look and things in an objective manner.

They shouldnā€™t have won the World Cup. They only scored one goal in 450 minutes of knockout football. Their attacking game plan at which Messi was at the hub of malfunctioned and was completely ineffectual.

It was guys like Mascherano and their defensive cohesiveness which brought them along to the final. Messi failed in his purpose.
