Copa America

Cracking win for Venezuala last night over Peru. Didn’t see the first half but the second half was a belter of a game. Peru were down to 10 men from early on I think and the Venezualans played some super football to break them down, while being awfully leaky at the back themselves.

Maldonado up front for the Chavismos was brilliant. Great energy, fantastic touch and he hit a couple of cracking shots. Wouldn’t mind Celtic taking a punt on him - he currently plays for O’Higgins in Chile.

O’Higgins in Chile, that’s class.

The only game Ive seen so far has been Paraguay v Colombia, disastrous stuff from Colombia late in the 2nd half.

Castillo & Robinho were the 2 stand out players from last night

I watched all the games on Saturday down in the pub and have no recollection of any of them.

Not really sure why I’m posting on this thread then really.

Castillo is winning this game on his own for Mexico. Superb first half performance.

The defending and keeping from Paraguay earlier reminded me of our astro league performances.

Fairly tired but I’m going to have a go at staying up for the Argentina game - work can go fook itself.

What a display from Argentina. Riquelme, absolutely world class.

united must be sick they lost out on him

The second half from Argentina last night was an absolute joy to behold.

Riquelme was nothing short of sensational and Messi and Zanetti were the other two stand-out players in an attacking sense. Mascherano was magnificent in that spoiling role - if ever a player was suited to a club’s style of play then it’s him and Liverpool.

Tevez was also excellent when he came on at half time.

Some of the passing and movement was incredible - especially Riquelme’s through ball to Messi for the 2nd. I can’t emphasise enough how incredible Riquelme was - some of the shit he was doing on the ball was awesome and 2 goals for him also.

Disappointing final. Turned it off just after half time because Argentina simply weren’t it. That’s a few tournaments in a row now that Argentina have bottled. They had by far and away the best squad at that tournament and a comprehensive 3-0 loss in the final is a touch embarrassing really.

Argentina were absolutely awful.

They didn’t create one single chance after it went 2-0.

Brazil were very solid and compact and got 2 excellent goals - the 1st and 3rd.

Their back 4 was excellent, especially Maicon at right back.

A thoroughly deserved victory for them.
