Thanks, that’s a lovely article
Haven’t read this but we were haunted to get to the AI final that year and Clare fully deserved their win.
You’d want to catch a hold of yourself Jimmy
The complete lack of respect cork have for Clare is gas
What are you on about now you weird fucker.
As usual JBM comes across as an absolute gent in that interview. He was a very overrated hurler though.
Clare were a much better side in 2013.
This is incorrect. He never won an u21 football. Brian Murphy is the only one with that clean sweep.
An absolute gent is right, and I’m told he could have been a football great if he made it a priority
But yes, probably overrated as a hurler, not in the top 15 Cork players of my lifetime
I think you’re right and it isn’t the first time the Irish times have made that error either
Ger Loughnane said that in his book about JBM too re he was an overrated hurler kinda forgetting that Clare were on their way to winning a Munster title in 1986 when JBM struck for a goal, JBM probably got a few scores against Clare in the 1976 and 1977 Munster Finals as well
There was an aura about JBM and I suppose that the whole dual thing meant that maybe his hurling ability was overstated but not a bad lad to have in your forward line all the same!
Better footballer I reckon - seemed so natural and skilful on the ball and lethal finisher
I am right. Brian Murphy also has all stars (multiple) in both codes. The only honours he’s missing are a football league and a club hurling AI. He has everything else.
JBM has the football league and club hurling AIs.
He was a football great
I agree. JBM was ‘cool’ at a time in Ireland when there was very little cool around.
Are Ger Cunningham and Brian Hayes related?
from cork so it’s very possible
Go on sure, let us know your lifetime Cork 15 for hurling. It’ll keep us busy with some debate until the morning…
Ger is his uncle
Top of my head,
