Cork, the softest of cunts (Part 1)

Dying of a hangover here so watching GAA Gold and Micheal O’Hehir is telling me this is John Allen scoring for Cork footballers in the 1983 all Ireland semi final. If it’s the Iar-Bainisteoir of Limerick John Allen I never knew he played at that level of ball.

He has All-Ireland’s in both codes anyway

It is indeed. He won club all Irelands in both with the Barrs

Great shot of a auld boy Dublin supporter supping from a litre of milk in the aftermath of the 83 final

Not going to drag this off topic but I think Barney Rocks lobbed goal in that 83 semi final is far better than Sheehys vs Cullen but doesn’t get any of the praise because he wasn’t a Yerra.

Christy Ring was right - the best players were yet to come.

It is more the mugging off of the cocky Dub that made Sheehy’s goal iconic. Everyone (bar us) loves seeing the cocky Dubs getting mugged off. Other classics of the genre include Maurice Fitz sideline kick in 2001, Mugsy mugging Paul Casey off in 2005, Kevin Foley’s dagger through my heart in 1991, johnny mcguirk’s wonder point in 1993 and Ciaran McDonalds beauty to win it for Mayo in 2006.

Brosnan, Garde and Donovan showed well for the Minors, and the full-back line did pretty well. O’Shea showed some effort at the end but like most Cork teams not managed by Pat Ryan, our workrate/puck-out wasn’t up to it.

Millerick the only Cork player who isn’t back training yet. Do lads reckon NOL and Downey will be straight back in?

Both will and should start I think. I’d be putting O’Leary on Currie.
I’d hold Cahalane in reserve in case young Downey struggles on Hetherton.

Corkac O’Brien very unlucky in this scenario.

Either way, we have options which is a positive.

Killeagh look a good bet to win Senior A. What odds are they?

There is a soft centre to them.

17/2. Barry Walsh is the real deal but I think they’ll run into something at some point

Great value at 17/2 each way. They ran Glen rovers close last year without the Walsh’s

That’s great value all the same.

Blarney are a God given certainty.

Talking about soft bellies…

Carrigtwohill look like a potential value bet to me at 14/1. Their league form in the top grade isn’t bad.

Blarney are down Power but are still probably the team to beat. Cannot understand how Bishopstown are top of the odds at the moment.

Bride Rovers have to fancy their chances this year.
