Ciaran Carey is up there with Cregan, McKenna and Cian Lynch of players Iāve seen in the flesh and I played against Ciaran multiple times, he would have been embarrassed Iām sure to get a pat on the head once he retired after not winning the big one but carry on defending Hoggie for the same.
For all Hoggie Baiās flash & free taking, ultimately it was about him & not the team, he WAS NOT a team player.
And thats the heart of the matter.
Iām certain Iāll be proven right in this - ever since Ben OāConnor was named Corkās new manager, Iāve said theyāll go on to win the All-Ireland next year. One of the biggest reasons behind that belief was letting Hoggie Bai go.
Just wait & see.
Oh and donāt utter Ciaran Carey and Hoggie Baiās names in the same breath again. Carey embodied the grit and loyalty of a man youād stand shoulder to shoulder with in the trenches; Hoggie, by contrast, the man who flees when the battle turns against him.

U mentioned embarrassed. Even great players like Ciaran have moments that may be embarrassing, some might say captaining a team to losing to an average wexford team playing with 14 players is embarrassing
Horgan has been incredibly and very understandably complimentary to the great Limerick team of recent years, said they were the best matches he ever played in,
Itās quite sad to read the disdain that Limerick folk here have for a great hurler, I canāt imagine what heās done to deserve it, the awful rumours about him were spread here by Limerick supporters, they were rejoicing in it for some bizarre reason,

You donāt go asking for these things, and you probably wouldnāt turn it down either, the poor fella canāt win.

Ah stop. Carey was a brilliant hurler, but 94 and 96 were 2 of the most embarrassing all ireland final losses in history. Itās actually hard to decide which was worse!
