Great result for Waterford as it turned out.

They’ve beaten Kilkenny for the first time since 1959 and that can’t be overestimated as a psychological barrier cleared.

The cockiness in believing that a game is won before it’s over will surely have been bred out of them now.

They won while playing badly, came back when they were on the ropes, and proved they’re fit enough and strong enough.

90 minutes of knockout hurling under their belts.

Shanahan’s confidence restored after a trademark Shanahan Saturday night extra-time goal.

Clare turned in a similar performance against Wexford at the same stage in 2013. There was nothing in that Clare performance to suggest that team would be All-Ireland winners either.
