Cork weirdo/sicko thread

All sports now avail of this I believe, which is proper order.

Charlie McCreevey pointed out the preferential treatment they got in 2004 and the GGA started talking about lads paying VAT on stick ball helmets.

Aren’t Monkstown, Waterpark, Christians Cork, Christian Brothers schools?

Gaelic games were banned outright by the british, the gaa was in pure survival mode when formed, soccer and rugby had the backing of the empire. You blame them for taking measures towards self preservation. In Canada the government provides special funding for ice hockey, so every kid has the opportunity to play their national sport. They don’t do the same for any other sport, but feel this integral part of their culture needs protection. Dinosaurs in your eyes?

Ken Goodall was banned from rugby union from 1970 to 1995

That is a lie.

Where was the ban?

Let’s speak the truth. Michael Cusack was a sports lover who engaged in rugby, cricket and athletics, who simply wanted power for himself.

During the debates in 1931, Oliver Saint John Gogarty went so far as to state that Gaelic football should be double taxed, as it was the bastard of soccer and rugby.

Interestingly the arguments that won for the GGA the special status was focusing on the “foreign games” aspect of the other two main field games and the difficulties (especially rugby) faced in keeping a balance between the Unionists and Nationalists.

Unionism was not tolerated in the 26 counties.

The rugby league ban.

Differing arguments on it.

It started out simply as an anti professionalism ban ie it was unfair to play amateurs in the same sport when you went pro. Understandable.

Rugby league rules only diverged during the 20th century slowly.

The real reason that RL failed to grow internationally was that it was about boosting northern English and Australian clubs than expanding the game ie they went into Wales and they did not set up clubs, they just offered good players money to play.

Good documentary on it here from the 1960s;

The RL ban was therefore more about maintaining the integrity of an amateur sport. Not too dissimilar to athletics or golf or whatever, in drawing a distinction.

There was some serious wrong doing on rugby unions part no doubt about it (Vichy France).

Here mate, the soccer and rugby goys wouldn’t even tolerate the native sports being played, but they were sent packing soon enough

The fake document.

So the Brothers didn’t promote the GAA above all else? They promoted it for the lower middle class and working class. They promoted rugby for the ruling class. The rugby playing fee paying schools enjoy massive state subsidies despite their elitist and exclusionary rules of admittance. The vast bulk of Irish rugby players of the professional era enjoy the benefit of this state funded privilege.

Oscar Traynor a cabinet minister for 30 years under Dev was the President of the FAI. The majority of soccer clubs in the State play on soccer pitches provided by the State. Old Brian Lenihan was a regular at St Mel’s Park.

You realize that isn’t a real article right?

Find me an actual historian who states it.

Find me a statute in the UK which banned it.

What happened was that you had to apply for a public order to host mass gatherings.

The Sunday Observance Act, the statutes of Galway.

The ban on mass gatherings was brought out with one group in mind, the natives.

You just don’t get it.

This was about competition. In south Dublin, you were competing in the local market. It was unique.

These were not the normal CB schools and you are not comparing like with like.

What state subsidies do they get? They save the State money.

Give me an example of Oscar Traynor doing anything in power in favour of association football.

So where were they explicitly GGA?

Ken Goodall was not allowed enter City of Derry’s grounds up to 1995 .

Read them. You think an opressed people should have abandoned their own culture and take up that of their oppressor. You are beyond reason.
