Cost of building

Well lads,

Anyone gone for this stencil finish concrete yet? Thoughts?
Saw a job done last year and it was impressive to be fair. Seems dearer than Tarmac but lads Iā€™m talking are saying if they had their time back they wouldnā€™t put down tarmac again.

The stencil concrete job looked really smart but I hear it needs a lacker of some sort every few years to keep it looking right.

Wouldnā€™t know much about the longevity of it or much recommendations either for or against, but priced something similar in Dublin recently and a crowd there were charging ā‚¬50/M2 which includes the supply of concrete. The stone base and blinding layer, which youā€™d need for tarmac too, would be extra. Tarmac would roughly be ā‚¬20/M2, maybe more or less depending on thickness required, so thatā€™s your main price differential there.

Ā£50 a sq metre for stamped concrete? Were they Pakistani? How much is a metre of concrete in Dublin?

Yeah I thought it was mad too. But their target market is the ones who look for an alternative to a brick paved driveway. So itā€™ll be cheaper than that but obviously more than concrete path type costs.

Are you confusing M2 with M3?

1m3 of concrete is around 85 inc Vat This would cover 9m2 at 4.5 inches at an above value of 450 quid.

Tarmac is a load of bollox. Expensive and hard to maintain. You canā€™t even powerwash the fucking thing. Concrete is the way to go.

Stencil job worthwhile iyo? Will it just wear away in jig time?

Iā€™ll be going with coloured and printed when I get a handy 20k together. Gulp.

Iā€™ve seen 2 jobs done locally and considered it myself. First thingā€¦ its as slippy as fuck in wet conditions. secondly, when that lacker wears off it looks fucking cat.

Am I right in saying the coloured concrete has no lacquer so it doesnā€™t wear out?

Thatā€™s what Iā€™m hearing, must cost a fortune to re lacker it.

Thatā€™s what the job I was looking at had, pigmented concrete, so theory is it shouldnā€™t wear out nor have that glazed top when wet.

Tobermore brick is what youā€™re looking for. Lovely job.

Correct but its a bitch to get done. Weather is critical and its often done in stages. There is a fella in craughwell who specialises in it. Its not much more expensive than tarmac.

House near the golf course in gort is a great example of his work.

Yeah a metre3 would do about 10metres at 4 inches.50 notes is very cheap especially for Dublin.Id be worried about the quality of concrete goin in at that price.

It works out at ā‚¬500 per m3 at that rate.

By God. It was on 80 quid back when I was building. Inflation wha.

Sounds like a load of ye made shit of yer drives with all the power washing

500 minus the price of concrete and labour. Not very profitable.
