Coup in Turkey

I sincerely hope not mate.

If they do a Ceaucescu on Erdogan it’ll be a case of the Hung Turks.

Turkeys previous coups fall into two categories. Proper coups of which the last one was the 1980’s after which they arrested everyone they disagreed with, held power for three years and then had “free elections” but only involving those they hadn’t banned from politics.
Then coup lites like 1997 where they basically told the government what they needed to do to avoid a full coup and they did it.
From a very limited memory of Turkish history a coup has never failed. Once they want you gone your gone.
The military is completely outside the governments sphere of influence

Ataturk can rest easy tonight.

The timing is more than interesting.

Perhaps the leaders in the west recognise that Erdogen is the weak link in the fight against stopping the Islamic terrorists.

This coup may be unofficially sponsored by the west.

Sky interviewing some lad from his apartment in Istanbul. He hasn’t a notion what’s going on there, but he’s live and on the ground. Well in his apartment like, but close enough.
Sky basically telling him what’s happening here, like some form of one on one news broadcasting

The fact that the US and Russia are meeting this evening about Syria is interesting timing alright.

The military leadership have been arrested by junior officers. They have issued a statement on state tv that they are in control. The prime minister has spoken about a failed attemp but he is on a private tv channel not state tv. This is according to bbc world service.

Russia Today is the only job for watching this pal.

Is it because it’s unofficial sponsorship that no one has the TV rights?

Bbc world service radio mate.
