Cracking game

Have to say that was a superb game of football, for all the doubts I might have expressed about it in advance. Just got a text from thedancingbaby who said the exact same thing I was thinking - semi-final between two top teams with all that it stake. There was never going to be much in it and a one goal margin of victory was about right. Fair play to Dunfermline they got there in the end though.

Very good.

Did you see the guy’s penalty in a cup semi replay after 88 minutes?

Runs up and dinks it. It took a lot of balls.

didnt see the pen but fair balls to him if he did that.

happy with that result for two reasons. 1) an easier game for Celtic (hopefully !!) and 2) delighted for Kenny - last nights victory for St Mirren must have been a kick in the teeth for them but they obviously lifted it again tonight.

a little bit of egg on face for Croppy and Raven who both said that going from Derry to Fife was a step down with little or no chance of success

They’re guaranteed UEFA Cup next season now too after that result regardless of whether they stay up or not. I wouldn’t be overly confident with them having put out the huns, Hearts and Hibs so far this season but agreed that I’d rather play them than Hibs in the final.

I think I’d have preferred Hibs in the final. Collins is really starting to annoy me and they’re not in good form at all.

Kenny has a cracking record in cup finals but the truth is it shouldn’t matter - we should be beating anybody in Scotland in a cup final.

The attendance was very poor. Ridiculous decision from the SFA to have it in Hampden Park on a weeknight. Why not play it in Tynecastle? It seems the SFA said yesterday that they thought the replay needed to be in Hampden Park but when they checked the rules they realised they could have moved it but it was too late. Fools.

That said why is an Eircom League fan suggesting that the 8,000 at a cup semi-final replay reflects the ills of the Scottish game? When was the last time there were 8,000 at an Eircom League game?

Hibs are probably the 5th biggest team in Scotland - not really one of the big ones.

Why is it a disgrace that Hibs bring less than 8,000 to a game but 5,000 for Rovers against Cork is some achievement? Could it be that you have lower standards for an inferior league?

its debatable whether Hibs are the 3rd 4th or 5th biggest team in scotland

No it’s not. Celtic, huns, Aberdeen and Hearts are all bigger and have siginificantly more supporters

How many did they bring to the scottish league cup final & the first round - for so called passionate fans I believe its a huge drop of in attendance -

First round of what? I don’t understand your point. It was a big drop in attendance from the first game against Dunfermline - midweek in Glasgow didn’t help, nor did the disillusionment with Collins

This was the lowest ever attendance for a scottish cup semi final -if you think by attacking your own league it diverts attention that a foreign league is in trouble -If you dont think that the lowest ever attendance for a scootish cup final doesnt deserve to be highlighted or commented on then you are blind to the ills of the scottish game -attacking football in your own country doesnt change that

It wasn’t a “scootish cup final” - it was a semi-final. It was a disappointing attendance which wasn’t helped by bad decision making by the SFA. Why are you so interested? I don’t see you complaining about the state of the Eircom League every week.

I really dont think overall the Eircom league is of a lower standard to that of the Scottish premier division(apart for the obvious). I point to Bohs v Hibs in a pre-season friendly. Hibs may have come over for a runabout but they were well into there season proper when they came over and if they were supposed to be superior it should have been a walk in the park for them against a supposed inferior side who were only warming up for the season ahead.

Attendances in Ireland are only up because Shamrock Rovers replaced Dublin City in the premier division. Exclude that change and they’d be worse than last year.

Anyway I don’t intend knocking the Eircom League just don’t understand why a fan of the league would bother knocking attendances in Scotland. The SPL is the model the Eircom League should be trying to emulate. Not much difference in populations and the popularity of soccer but a world of difference in the way the game is run.
