The CAB can monitor the wallets and will see all Bitcoin going in or out of them. Its all visible on the blockchain.

I have 50 million of gold in my safe. Now my safe is highly mobile, and cab can’t actually seize it. They want the gold. I say I’ve lost the only keys, :man_shrugging:

That’s a different issue though. The safe needs to be located and then got at with a consaw.

The CAB have the 12 Bitcoin Wallets. Unless they get the private keys then the Bitcoin is going nowhere.

How can they stop a lad in Macau who has the keys withdrawing the bitcoin?
If the codes or keys or whatever are lost, are they gone forever?

They wont know he’s in Macau though. They need to link a wallet to an individual. You will be able to see the Bitcoin going around in the network but unless you can link the wallets to an identity then you’re goosed.

Yes.

No. My question is, if your man actually still has the keys (likely), can he not give them to someone else who can withdraw the bitcoin, sell it, and spread the money across several jurisdictions. A pal who’s a forensic accountant who audits receiverships says you can never get the money back even though you know there’s millions stashed away

Better phrased, if you were your man, and still had the key codes, is there anything you could do?

It’d be an awful shame if those accounts got hacked in the future

If he does still have a copy of the keys he can get that money moved at any time. The burglary post arrest is high suspicious.

@Copper_pipe would know better but I think if he does move the money he can run it through a bitcoin tumbler which basically makes the overall transaction untraceable.

Correct.

The Private Keys take the below format for example. Not something you’d remember off the top of your head. And thats only for 1 wallet.

You could use a tumbler alright for a % fee.

Chances of that story about codes being true :joy:
“in a cottage that was broken into in connemara your honour, sure them thieves are highly computer literate these days”
Quinn like.
Hell be misplacing a shopping centre in the Ukraine next.

Going by the story the burglary is irrelevant and the codes ended up being incinerated with the fishing gear. Highly dubious.

You don’t say?

I think i’ll move my private keys to a different spot when I head get from work…

Send me a PM with the details in case you get locked up.

As a gambling man I’m prepared to take my chance and decline that offer.

The man who was arrested in relation to an international gambling ring, was found to have over €50m worth of funfair in his wallet, which was bought when it was worth just €0.0000005

I’d be surprised if the CAB falls hook, line and sinker for the fishing rod story.
