I think this is the first time in the history of COTY that the result has not been in doubt right until the last minute. We’ve become so accustomed to nailbiting finishes that this comes almost as a disappointment. But like at Lakeside this year, the nature of these things is that some years there will be a decisive winner who stands above all others. And this is very much the case in COTY 2012. The people have spoken loudly and clearly and enabled our winner to attain the type of status he so craves. He wouldn’t have been my choice, but he is YOUR choice and that’s what matters, the democratic decison is always what matters.

You’d have to feel sorry for him - it was his one big chance and he couldn’t take it. Only two of last year’s six finalists were even nominated for the competition this year, with reigning champion Terry Prone missing out on the oppurtunity to defend her title.
