The ad says driver tiredness can be just as dangerous as drink or drugs (interested to see research/stats on this).
If driver tiredness is just as dangerous, why do you think she should be jailed if she was drunk but not if she was tired? Surely the two are equally culpable?
Its against the law to drink and drive. It’s not against the law to drive while tired.

Drink driving is a choice. Tiredness can manifest in different forms. She could have felt fine sitting behind the wheel. Maybe she should have slept on the floor of the hospital.
As someone who has had to do late night hospital runs recently I can absolutely see how it could happen.

Driving while tired is not the same as drink driving. I think you know that.
I’m not sure where to come down on this individual case.
But if tiredness is as dangerous as drink - which is what the ads say - they should be treated the same.
How would you objectively measure tiredness?

Hard to do. But if you drive so tired you kill someone what’s the difference to driving so drunk you kill someone. There was a 16 year old killed in navan in a hit and run the other day; understood the suspected is a young learner who shouldn’t have been driving unaccompanied. Presume posters will take the same view that there’s nothing to be gained by jailing this person.

Do you really think a hit and run by someone without a valid licence is the same as an accident where the driver stayed at the scene and had a valid licence? I’m glad your not a judge.

Who mentioned jail? . I think she should lose her licence for good. It was a mistake, im sure But she killed someone while speeding on the wrong side of the road. 6 years is fuckall. There are buses going by her road. If the only consequence for her after killing him is that she never drives again then I’m ok with that.
As others have alluded to, our deterrents are weak as piss in this area. People will take more care if they know the cconsequences are real. A cyclist or a pedestrian never* killed someone by accident. Car drivers do… a lot.

Leaving aside leaving the scene, they’re probably equal. People are treating this person differently because she’s a 60 year old lady.

Fuck. That turn is lethal. The lights go green for cyclists and cars going straight but not left turning cars to let the cyclists get away first. Id say someone saw green and just went.
