Cycle, crash, cycle, crash, cycle thread

Jesus. I’m 77 and that’s after losing 15 since Christmas.

The pros are so light now it’s ridiculous. As a comparison, Lance Armstrong was 72 kilos when he was winning all round him (ahem).

Was it not a bit silly from the organisers to have such a punishing stage as Thursday’s so early in the race, essentially deciding interest in the GC in the first 6 days of the Tour?

There’s been hard stages in the first week of the tour before. There’s hasn’t been someone good enough and with a good enough team to risk doing that so early. Who else could have done that in the last 10 years? The last 40 years? Hinault did some crazy shit back in the 80s, but sometimes paid for it in subsequent stages. Merckx yes.

I suppose you could make the case that 6 being hard and then no real super hard stage until 14 kind of played into his hand as there’s over a week to recover, so he could go all in. As good as he is, his team is off the charts though., they can control anything. What we’ll likely see in week two and three is Pog riding for Del Toro to grab the 2nd step on the podium. Which I suppose will make it interesting.

Will Pogacar go for 7 TdF?

It comes across like he really hates interrupting his classics training for le tour.

Depends how much he values making money really, for as much as people enjoy the classics its the TDF thats the money spinner

I’d say he’s not too bothered but the team will want it. There’s a rumour that he’ll quit after the 2028 Olympics. He still has to win a Vuelta as well.

Last year there was no big stage until around stage 12 and it was a bit dull. Problem is that he’s killed the race stone deacd already.

What are UAE up to here? Chasing the break down. Hardly necessary, unless Pog wants one of his boys to win a stage.

They’re cunts

Cracking last 20k. MvDP times it to perfection.

He just rode at his own pace, didn’t panic when dropped.

Healy is in the break today. 37 riders about 3 mins ahead. Tough climb up ballon d’alsace to come and a descent to the finish.

Healy in the break again today. Smaller group so maybe a better chance. Raining.

I see he’s having a much quieter tour this year, down in 81st on the GC.
