The one on the left should do it

I’ve seen it all now. A man in his 40s asking how to pump a bicycle.:thinking:

I give up, it works fine for all the other bikes but I can’t get it to work on that one, I’ll ask somebody in the real world, thanks

Get yourself a track pump for home and have one to carry with you when your out on the road.

Check that valve on the tube. Maybe consider changing it to a more common one. (Assuming you know how to work the pump).

I’ve used those pumps for years, it’s a simple lock mechanism, but when I unscrew the thing on the valve to the end and put on the pump and lock it there’s no air getting through, if I let it back a bit it’s just blowing air onto my hand, I’ll ask somebody local when I get a chance

What do you mean by a more common one? Apparently all racing bikes have the presta valve?

Push down hard on it. Sometimes you have to kind of balance them.

You have unscrewed the valve too far. There needs to be a bit of a wiggle on it for the air to get through.

Whammo. Can’t bate the old dog.

I suspect this is correct.

Got it sorted, was talking to a neighbour, he said the valve was ready (unscrewed properly) when it would release air when you pushed it in,
Thanks anyway, I’ve a lot to learn about bikes

Get puncture proof tyres

Get yourself something like this

And something like this mate

That’s exactly what I said

The pump I have did a fine job once I figured out what the knack was,
I’ll get one with the pressure gauge when the shops open up

Apologies I didn’t see it

That pump you have is grand for a quick fix but you need to know your PSI if you’re heading out on any kind of training spins. Hope you’re enjoying the bike mate.

Guys I set my bike up on one of those basic turbo trainers I bought at Christmas in Halfords.

I have a question about the pedometer/speedometer. Will it work if I place it on the back wheel or have I any other way of tracking distance? I have it presently set up on the front.

You need a speed sensor for that, one that is compatible with your bike computer

Generally go on the hub of back wheel.

Will they the sensor that is on the front wheel work on the back? I’ll take a photo of it tomorrow.
