Cycle, crash, cycle, crash, cycle thread

Right guys, when I got the bike I got yer man to put normal pedals on, now I’m thinking of getting the proper ones with the shoes, will it make any difference?

Did 50k yesterday for the first time, it’s a piece of piss except for the aching arse, why can’t you have a sensible saddle? Is it to do with aerodynamics or what?

Get Look pedals, cycling shoes and cleats. You will fall over at the start, everyone does and those who say they don’t are lying. But you’ll soon get used to clipping in and out. Cleats are a huge advantage when cycling as you can draw up as well as push down on the pedal.

Saddles, I have a Fizik Aliante for the last 4 years I think, great saddle. Saddle soreness is all part of it, it goes away when you get bike fit. Have you got cycling shorts yet?

I have shorts and a bib short thing like Giant Haystacks used to wear, the kids gets great laugh when I parade around in that before putting a t shirt over it.

OK, what are cleats? Do I need to get three things, cleats, pedals and shoes?
Or do cleats come on the shoes?

Yes. You attach the cleats to shoes

Look pedals and cleats. Think I have Keo’s. I’ve been using Sidi shoes for years.

I have a Bontrager saddle now with the Trek but I used Selle San Marco “rolls” saddles for years.

Decent shorts Santini among the best. Rapha if you are a shaper.

The cleats click into the pedal like a ski boot does. Might need to adjust your saddle height if you get them.

What gives you the right to break the law and cycle for 50km ?

I’ve Shimano pedals and shoes.

What’s the major difference between them and the Look ones? I suppose I got Shimano first day and never questioned them.

Santini make a great short. A couple of others I like are Pearl Izumi and surprisingly Skins make a very decent bib short.

@backinatracksuit if you’re paying under 75 quid rrp minimum for a bib short , then you’re gonna have a sore arse is my view on it.

I got Looks in 1991 and just never changed. Campag on the bike. All Shimano now of course.

Garmin speed sensor should do fine. That Wahoo one is probably compatible too

The cleats are handy. They make sure the bike gets wrapped around you if you have a crash.

I have this cycling jersey.

So do I. Saw it in a record shop in Berlin and then my wife ordered it for me for Christmas. Won our little club back home’s TT one night wearing it

Not as bad as the old metal toe clips. You’d be rightly fucked with them. There’s a quick release on the cleats you just pull your leg out sideways.

I’d also look at Shimano SPD as you can walk in the shoes, if that’s something of interest.

New pump, shoes and pedals

If those shoes are SPD compatible, I hate to break it to you, but they won’t fit those pedals.
