Dangerous Dogs

The two lads.

We’re the same. Always had Red Setters or Spaniels around growing up. Loads of room for them at home and if they made their way inside they got a physical and verbal bollocking. Not an ounce of badness in any of them.

We’ve enough space now but are far too exposed and close to urban area. If the dog were to roam around itself they’d be gone under a car within a few hours I’d say. And I couldn’t fathom having a dog tied up all day. And in my head, they’re always outside animals, not inside ones.

For the aggro types there’s laws, for everything else there is a series of bylaws by councils.

And when they do try and bring restrictions in, you’ll get some dog owners mounting petitions against the unfairness of it.

I will never allow by dog off leash in park unless it is very early or I am in a specific dog area. It is bad manners otherwise.

You’ll get a serious fine in parts of the US if you’re seen with your dog off the leash outside of a dog park. Whatever about the relatively harmless ones, I think a crackdown is needed to send a wider message to that wankers who want to own the angriest type of dog they can.

Our 8 year old nephew had his ear nipped off by his families 11 year old Bichon Frise cross there recently. The dog was the most placid yoke I’ve ever seen. Barked a lot as a pup but never caused any trouble. She’s practically deaf now so we reckon he picked the dog up from behind and she got such a shock she snapped out at him and got his ear lobe.

It was all sewn back on in Crumlin and all was ok. They decided not to have the dog put down which I was surprised at but tis their own decision to make. I won’t be letting my own kids near her if they visit though. Once something sets a dog off, I usually found it’s rarely the only time

An 11 year old dog is a geriatric in terms of their life span. At that age they are not for playing with, to be fair to them.

At that age they just want to be left alone and you could hardly blame them

Agreed. @Fagan_ODowd would snap at you fairly quickly if you annoy him as well so its not just dogs.

Brady is a champion… Extremely affectionate and friendly with everyone. I cant put him away when people call because he drives me insane barking and howling as all he wants to do is play with whoever has called… they’re no different to ourselves, how they are treated when pups decides a lot. But Pitbulls should not be kept as pets, there’s just something in them that even the best treated and trained can flip. Ive no idea what average non wankers who have one see in them.

I thought there was a ban on certain breeds of dog in Ireland or am I wrong? Obviously this breed isn’t then part of such a ban but it needs changing asap. This isn’t the first attack like this on a child/baby by a dangerous breed here, and those type of bull terriers are extremely uncommon in comparison to our neighbours across the pond.

Some very good posts here about dog behaviours that I was not familiar with. For example we’d a bitch pup we got very young and she lived to a good age and foolishly she was an indoor dog and did whatever she wanted. She’d be sitting on her own spot on the couch and if you went to move her she’d snap at you whoever you were. She was like a human in the house and she could nearly understand everything you said to her but she didn’t know her place and you wouldn’t trust her with anyone, if you grabbed her suddenly and wrong you’d be in trouble. By comparison then after a few years we got a second dog who was treated like a dog and kept outside and he certainly knew his place, he was sound as a pound as a result. The parents have another dog at home now and he’s an outside dog and he isn’t spoilt and again you’d trust him more than the bitch we kept indoors all those years and she like a family member. If I ever get a family dog in the future I’ll do things differently, you do need rules and boundaries.

On the specific incident in Wexford it’s horrific and worse I think that he wasn’t even the family pet, the family of the poor child weren’t even the ones stupid enough to have this dog around. Just wrong place wrong time. The owner should be strung up by the balls. In so far as sentencing he’ll probably just get a fine, I’m not sure we’ve anything in law to jail him over this carelessness? Maybe @artfoley would know the lay of the land on that.

A lot of people who have small families in suburban Dublin that can’t commit to a dog full time are minding dogs on a part time basis. Earn a few pound and kids get to benefit from the dog without having one full time. Seen them advertised on a good few websites.
Been away for the last two weeks and I think the missus can’t wait to get home to see the dog.

Is he a cavapoo out front?

No idea what breed is in him to be honest.

She wanted a few slaps of a hurl.

Those I see locally are generally muppets
Young fellas trying to impress, who I don’t know
Majority are chavs

Just seen a photo of that kid from Enniscorthy in hospital. Holy fuck :rage:

Reported today the man was arrested under the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act.

Endangerment I’d imagine

At minimum. As I said above I think causing serious harm could apply.

A neighbour of mine has some sort of pitbull, female, looks like a tank, never seen it walked. Another neighbor said it got out and killed a small dog last year. Don’t know if that’s true, if it is it seems mad it hasn’t been confiscated and put down.

they need to bring in reforms and controls on breeding/breeders full stop. These puppy farms are an abomination. Forcing bitches to throw litters every time they’re in season leads to huge problems. The dogs are kept in dirty dens/cages so the bitch can’t socialise them properly, a good bitch will put manners on a pup by putting it out if it dirties, misbehaves etc. If they aren’t let do this by the breeders then the dogs aren’t socialised at the most important phase, the first 2-3 months.

It’s very, very important if you are going to get a dog, go see where it’s kept. Don’t be giving these evil bastards any business. See how tidy the den is and how the mother is with the pups.

I saw a video of the apparent dog and the yolk that owns it. He was training it to be aggressive. It was 8 months apparently in the video. A screen record of a video the owner put on fb. Yrained the dog to be thag aggressive. Whats the need for doing this only to use for intimation. Madness. I know people with pit bulls. Lovely as pets but letal in the wrong hands. Clearly this one was trained by a dickhead. These dickheads are attracted to these breeds.
