Is there a video of Davy’s comments from the weekend? Is the interview available online?

There is audio footage posted on Twitter and one of the threads here

Sambo McNaughton has a right cut off Davy, so he does

Davy has about 4 days left in charge of Antrim.

Next stop most likely Laois. They have a proud history of paying a fortune to useless grifters to take their county teams from bad to worse

I’m amazed no one from Antrim GAA has come out and said something along the lines of ā€œDavy’s views are his own, not oursā€

The next county that gives Davy a job should be fucked out of the GAA

The GAA cant do without Dublin. I’d say once he goes there he’ll find his true home.

Clare job could be open

It was a ludicrous appointment from day one. Antrim deserve everything they are getting from him, he needs to be ran after the Offaly game - win or lose.

Antrim hurling legend Terence ā€˜Sambo’ McNaughton cannot get his head around the antics of Davy Fitzgerald since taking the hot seat with the Saffrons.

It is with a ā€œheavy heartā€ that McNaughton voices criticism of Antrim’s displays under Fitzgerald’s watch this season ahead of ā€œthe most important game that we have had in the past decadeā€ but he says he felt compelled to speak up before it was too late.

Antrim head to Tullamore on Sunday to face Offaly in the final round of the Leinster SHC round-robin with the losers relegated to the Joe McDonagh Cup for 2026 and facing a long road back to compete for Liam MacCarthy again.

Former All-Star McNaughton is dismayed at what he has watched from Antrim this year, as well as the many sound bites from former Clare star Fitzgerald which have garnered various headlines in recent months.

ā€œHis first interview, he totally disrespected my club coaches, every club coach in the county when he said, ā€˜I’m going to teach the Antrim hurlers to walk again’. Why does he have to disrespect what’s gone before all of the time?ā€ McNaughton told the Irish Independent.

ā€œThat seems to be his go-to, ā€˜I’ve arrived now and I’m doing this right, everybody else that has been here before doesn’t know what they’re doing’.

ā€œConsidering he’s such an experienced manager who’s been around a long time, and he’s been around RTƉ a long time as well and social media, some of the interviews he does are just plain stupid.

ā€œThey are totally mind-boggling. Throwing players under the bus, throwing teams under the bus, totally disrespecting the players and there’s absolutely no need for it. To get the best out of anyone, you don’t insult them.

ā€œThat’s not how to get the county behind you and the supporters behind you either. Every single person I meet says, ā€˜The Davy thing is not working’ and if he sees this interview, he’ll come out and use me as an excuse.

ā€œEvery interview he does just winds me up more and more. To come out and say that ā€˜I’ve got to teach Antrim hurlers to walk again’, it’s bullshit.

ā€œIt’s disrespectful to everyone in the county and it’s just not on. His rant about a referee or a linesman last week after the Galway match, that’s not the time or place to do that. Our focus should have been totally on the Offaly game afterwards.

ā€œIt shouldn’t have been talking all this shite about referees and ā€˜referees don’t like me’. I’ve an aul’ saying that if you’ve a problem, you’re better to look in the mirror than look out the window.ā€

McNaughton ā€œfeels sorryā€ for the players as ā€œI’ve been at the end of those defeats as wellā€ and he hopes that the senior side can muster a big response for a game with massive consequences.

The RuairĆ Ɠg Cushendall clubman insists Fitzgerald is ā€œgetting powerful commitment from playersā€ but it is not being replicated on the pitch and he has a few reasons why that might be the case.

ā€œI was an Antrim man before Davy arrived and I’ll be an Antrim man when he leaves, I can only call it as I see it. Our lack of desire in every game I’ve seen this year is mind-boggling,ā€ McNaughton said.

ā€œWe have good players who are now playing averagely and they’re not playing the way they were under Darren [Gleeson, previous manager]. We’re going to Offaly on Sunday and them boys need to play for their jersey.

ā€œThey need to forget the bullshit and tear into Offaly. I’ve a message for Davy, I do believe that desire has won more matches than puck-out strategies or tactics or these crazy systems of his.

ā€œIt’s not right, it’s not right what’s going on. Let’s just take a step back, re-evaluate and do the right thing. Let’s go at this game in the right frame of mind and cut out the bullshit that’s going on. It’s not acceptable.

ā€œWe’re not as good as some people maybe think we are but we’re not as bad as we’re showing. We are not as bad as I’ve seen this year. If we have to do what Roy Keane says and just run into people to make yourself feel good at times then so be it.

ā€œDavy has to be realistic with the thing and get a group of players together that are playing for the county and himself, I don’t think the players are playing for him, I don’t. I don’t know what’s going on.

ā€œAll the talk is about Davy whereas we need to really look at this and see where we’re going as a county. If we keep doing what we’ve always done, then we’re going to get what we’ve always got.ā€

ā€˜Look, it’s a tough day for them boys in that dressing room. It’s a tough day for me, they’re great lads but we just couldn’t get the displays out I was seeing in training all year.

It’s hard at this level. Antrim have been down for years, well before I arrived. They’ve shipped some terrible beatings and we’ve got more this year.

We had so many injuries. That’s been a killer all year. Antrim has a small pick, so they have, but we needed all of ā€˜em out there but it’s hard missing 5 or six forwards. Them boys fought hard, a few things went against us, there was a definite free out before the fourth Offaly goal but I’m not going into that, so I’m not. I’m not making excuses. Fair play to Offaly.

There’s been people having a cut at me during the week. That’s fine, that’s ok. Just don’t knock them boys in there, they work so hard. A great bunch of lads who are working hard to get better. Maybe some of them boys would be better off getting involved rather than having a cut off me.

Today it’s not about me, so it’s not. It’s about them boys. Great lads. The travelling is hard, it’s a whole day basically gone every time we train. I’ve a young family. Commitments at home. It’s a long fucking journey to be making a few times every week. I’ll have a chat about it with my family and see where we are. But today isn’t about me, so it’s not.’
