Davy Fitz- a thread for the non-believers

That time Jimbob gave him the dunt inside under the Mackey Stand was priceless. Jimbob knew.

The Wexford lads fell hook, line and sinker for Davy when he arrived in November 2016. Given Antrim were at a lower ebb I expected a big buy in but they seem to have sussed him out very quickly. It’s been some regression for Davy when you consider the tug-of-war between Galway and Wexford at the end of 2019. Reminiscent of the way things unravelled for JosĆ©, except he’s less of an egomaniac than Davy.

Skehill was saying that if it was anyone else RTE would be all over it. But he is tied to them with the fittest family show so they give him a free ride.

Probably not the best nickname for a fella to bring up north.

Sambó saying davy is getting " powerful commitment from the players" but he’s seeing any desire on the pitch is a bit contradictory.

As an aside, is James mcnaughton sambos son?

So he is……

Know a lad managing a club up in Antrim @Glentaisie . I spoke to him a few weeks back. He had just met one of his players who is on the team who told him they are sick of Davy and his antics. He couldn’t wait for the IC season to end and go back to club.

We’re gonna need a bigger Del Bosque ā€˜ooofft’ gif:rofl::rofl: Tremendous stuff from Sambo:muscle:t2::muscle:t2:

Davys post match interview should be good.

No relation at all. Sambo’s son, Shane, was a good hurler with Antrim and Cushendall but went acting and retired.

Sambo’s father was a McNaughton from Cavan and moved to Antrim for work. Not knowingly related to the McNaughtons already living there for aeons.

Has a son playing with Derry no?

Skehill is an absolute nobody in the grand scheme of things and shows little or no gravitas on that pod with ā€˜Murph’ and Big Will. How he’s still patrolling the sidelines himself with Galway Underage teams after his pitchside comments on TG4 at half time in an All Ireland Minor final two years is beyond me.

Anyhow, Davy was an elite manager up until the Autumn of 2019. His stock could hardly have been higher at that point as @Aertel220 highlighted. Some people blame him for Wexford not beating Tipp but could anyone else have had Wexford play to that level in the first place? When he coached Sixmilebridge to win the Clare Championship that year, it looked like he couldn’t do much wrong. I thought they’d give Munster a right rattle but they flopped spectacularly in round 1 and were beaten out the gate on their Home pitch by Ballygunner. Davy has never recovered and it looks like his heart has never really been in it since.

He should really have given up after Wexford 2021 and taken the Sunday Game gig for the next decade.

Maybe he should get himself a proper job.

Fittest Family is worth a nice bit to him.

I’d be friendly enough with one of the families who went on that show and they couldn’t speak highly enough of Davy.

What did skehill say?

Nothing that wasn’t true

He’s been having numerous pops at Davy over the years, ā€œI’d rather eat cow shite than see Davy over Galway etcā€.

At half time in the 2023 All Ireland Minor Final, Skehill was interviewed pitchside by TG4 and said it had been a terrible performance by his team so far and that he was going to ā€œlet them have itā€ in the dressing room at half time.

Other son Christy went with Derry last year. Not sure if he’s still playing with them.

I posted some of it above

Yeah, coached him a few times. Unbelievable hands, just struggles to move.
