Thatâs the thing Fran, we recognize and embrace his flaws. Not like the over protective dubs when it comes to their working class footballing Keane.
Itâs an understanding of where he came from, knowing of his family (father in particular) an real understanding what makes him tick, what makes him angry, where his sarcasm and ability for self deprivation humour comes from.
Weâre not all perfect like you and Rocko and the likes Fran. So us in Cork are comfortable in our own skins and we see that in Roy. Now seeing as he had a brilliant career for a reasonable footballer talent wise and the emotional attachment we all would have to the successful local boy itâs hardly surprising he is loved, warts and all.
Itâs hardly surprising he is loved the as the successful local boy but the vast majority of Cork people wonât hear a bad word said about him. I would not call that accepting his flaws, moreso blindly ignoring his flaws.

Caoimhin, I really like his articles, but that is the stuff of a besotted 16 year old girl.
one thing that Donal og can never be described as is âhonestâ
Iâm told heâs been spotted numerous times in straight pubs lately.
Outstanding again from Donal Og
I donât get this rush to award Cusack with a Pulitzer prize after every article than he has written. Granted he is an experienced Gaa player and has gravitas when it comes to comment on Gaa matters but from reading this latest piece youâd swear he was best mates with this Suarez character. How a fella from Cork can claim to know whatâs happening in the mind of a Uruguayan footballer during the biggest competition on the world stage is a fairy story made up to impress those who appear to be easily impressed.
Iâve read most of his articles now and enjoyed most of them if for no other reason that they are thought provoking and generate debate.
His success is in part a reflection on the utter garbage churned out for years by most GAA hacks.
I am looking forward to kimmage and froome in tomorrowâs Sindo.
I just hope my parents have it out on the coffee table.
Enjoyed that article though, and he is a very good journalist. The Roy keane one was an isolated example of bilge.
