Speed camera van operators vote to go on strike

Martin Wall

Staff working for the company that operates speed camera vans on behalf of the State have voted to go on strike.

Siptu said its members employed by GoSafe overwhelmingly backed industrial action, including strike action, in a ballot yesterday.

Siptu organiser Brendan Carr said: “Our members were left with no option other than to vote for industrial action due to the continued refusal of the company to implement a Labour Court recommendation which confirms that it is Siptu representatives who have the sole right to negotiate on behalf of its members with management.

“The employees of GoSafe were frustrated in their attempts to negotiate with their employer as it refused to attend the conciliation services of the State.”

My current driving licence expires shortly, so it had been on my radar to pop into the NDLS centre in the Parkway to pick up a renewal form. Lo-and-behold an letter arrives from them today with the form actually enclosed. Credit where credit’s due, that’s top, top state agencying. I see you can even get the whole kit and kaboodle done online now as well if you have a Public Services Card.

Yeah, it’s great. I got mine renewed in February. The on line passport is even more impressive. I had mine in 4 days

Leo’s winning matches

Found the first flaw with the NDLS form. Only “Male” and “Female” are presented as options for Gender. Hard to see that flying in 2019.

How would a public services card benefit a lad that isn’t drawing the dole? Apart from getting a driving license in double quick time of course

You’ll need it if you want parental leave

Really? What else ?

I didn’t need it.

Not sure but I get the impression you will be able to do lots of things online shortly with it. It removes the need to validate who you are with an agency.

Dunno buddy. That’s the only time I’ve been in touch with the Dept of Social Welfare.

Aside from the obvious savings in cm³ of diesel emissions, the impact on my general well-being and overall aura in avoiding the Parkway for another week or two is immeasurable.

Quick one lads.

My licence expires next month so I need to get a new one. I can’t do it online as I’ve to wait 3-5 weeks to get an appointment to get a public services card in order to do so.
So I’m planning to head to the NDLS centre in Drogheda. It gives a list of documentation required but doesn’t say anything about photos so I’m just presuming they take the photo there and then? Anyone do this recently ?

Good man @Spidey.

It’s a shambles of a system. Way quicker to do it in person alright.

Mine too, I got one of those mygov id cards online recently for another reason and I did it in less than 5 minutes online, they’ve just used my previous picture, so in 10 years time it’ll be a 20 year old picture :man_shrugging:
